I've been to renaissance festivals where they offered veggie wraps, and is it

falafel that's vegetarian???

Mmmm falafel... i have always thought that's a good vegetarian choice. Not sure

if it's vegan though. Also, you are gonna rile up the Medieval lady talking

about falafel at a Renaissance Festival! LOL!! Although i am sure it's been

around forever ;o)

Let's just say that I am biting my tongue *laugh*. Without evidence, I

certainly wouldn't want to be serving them at anything medieval.

I think that the balls themselves are vegan ... hang on, I will see what I

can find ...

Title: ANOTHER FALAFEL RECIPE

Categories: Appetizers, Oriental, Snacks

Yield: 12 patties

 

1 1/2 c Chick peas, cooked & amp; drained

1 ea Onion, chopped

1/4 c Parsley, chopped

3 ea Garlic cloves, crushed

1 tb Chick pea stock

1/2 tsp Baking soda

1 tsp Coriander

1 tsp Cumin

Salt & amp; pepper

1 tb All-purpose flour, plus

-- additional flour for

-- coating patties

Oil for frying

Pitas, tops cut off

Tomato & amp; onion salad

1 ds Harissa, see below, optional

 

--------------------------HARISSA--------------------------

1/2 lb Red chillies, stemmed, seeded

-- & amp; chopped

6 ea Garlic cloves, peeled

1 tsp Caraway seeds

1 tsp Salt

1 1/2 tsp Pepper

1 1/2 tsp Cumin

1 tsp Coriander

Olive oil

 

Place cooked chick peas in a blender. Add onion, parsley, garlic, stock,

soda, spices, salt and pepper. Process until smooth. Place in a glass bowl

and refrigerate until firm, 20 to 30 minutes. Shape into 12 patties. Dust

lightly with flour & amp; fry in hot oil, turning frequently until browned

and crisp. Drain on paper towels. Put a patty in a pita pocket, top with

salad and a little harissa if desired.

 

HARISSA: Place peppers & amp; garlic in a processor and process until

coarsely ground. Add remaining ingredients except the olive oil and process

until smooth. To store, place in a small jar, top with a thin layer of

olive oil and refrigerate till ready to use. Makes 1 cup.

So nice to see a group of people with a sense of humour! Thanks for the falafel

recipe... i have never made them but do order them every chance i get!

You are quite welcome. If you ever do try it, do tell us how it goes. I

have never made the stuff either, although, if I ever get a blender which

works better than the blending wand I bought when my last (good) one died, I

might have a go. It looks pretty good.
