My bet is that you remove the seeds and then dice the flesh. Personally,

that seems like too much work and waste to me, but is the only thing which

comes to mind. I certainly wouldn't use tinned tomatoes.

This is exactly how I do it. My kids don't really like the

slimey seed mush in tomatoes. However, instead of

wasting it, I save it in a bowl and add it to my salad

the next day. :::slurp::: *lol*

Tomato Question

OK - here's a stupid question. How do you dice tomatoes so they

actually look diced - nice and neat and not a mangled mush? I want

to make tacos for a friend and I next week, and short of draining a

can of Hunts, I don't know how to do this.

Any help?

That, and a non-mushy tomato to start with. Get a nice firm one.

Hi!

I just joined the group and haven't even posted yet

....

Just thought I'd put my 2cents in. Try a plum tomato.

They're firm and have small seed cavities, so they

dice very neatly.

Happy Monday!

Hi Shelly. That is good advice. I would also add

that Roma tomatoes are good that way, too.

[wonders if they are the same?]

Yesterday I bought a few tomato plants and saw

one called a Pear Tomato. It looked so cute; yellow

and shaped just like a pear. Of course I bought the

plant to give it a try this summer. It will be a while

before I get to eat any. I was wondering if anyone

here had eaten them or grown them before? If so,

how do they taste? TIA

Hi PT!

I believe Romas are a variety of plum tomatoes (some

people call them paste tomatoes). I've grown the

" Roma " variety as well as some others in my garden. My

favorite variety is black plum. They make great

sun-dried tomatoes.

I grew yellow pear tomatoes last year. They were

delicious. A great salad tomato. And prolific!!! My

advice ... only plant 1 plant unless you have LOTS of

tomato eaters or want to sell them :)

Mmmm ... can't wait for homegrown tomatoes!!

Same here! Can't wait...

Thanks for the feedback on the pear tomatoes.

Good thing I did only buy one plant. *lol*

I bet the bright yellow color will look wonderful in a

salad.

I also bought a yellow banana pepper plant; love how

they make these varieties and give them fruity names.

My husband picked out a hab pepper plant, too.

Can't wait to make some spicey salsa!
