Guest guest
I'm trying to become a vegetarian but nobody in my family is willing to join me. Are there any of you that have decided to become vegetarian and have a husband and kids not willing to change diets? How do you do it? I went vegetarian a couple of years ago. I liked it. I felt so much better. But the only thing is I tried to go vegan from the very start. I didn't know much about it. I'm not going to do that this time. I'm just planning on cutting out the meat in my diet for now. HAM AND EGGS - A day's work for a chicken, a lifetime commitment for a pig. Guest guest
I went vegetarian at 15 and didn't say a word to the family about it! I just stopped eating the meat and ate everything else. They figured it out after awhile. I just usually made my own meals. To me it wasn't a big deal because I just ate other things and relied on peanut butter and jelly and fruits and vegetables. Personally, I feel it's best to quit cold turkey. I got so where meat just grossed me out, even if I previously liked some of it. I am not quite vegan, but have been at various times. A vegan friend of mine really suggests that milk and dairy products should be given up before meat! I know few people that go that way, but with all the research on how bad milk is for your body, it makes sense. ~Janice~ <serenity1 wrote:I'm trying to become a vegetarian but nobody in my family is willing to join me. Guest guest
Yes! I am the sole vegetarian in a house of meat eaters. I make it work by being a feisty pain'n the bottom and telling them there are two choices for dinner, take it, or leave it! *lol* But seriously, I do several things to help make it work out for everyone here at meal time. I try to prepare good food using some meat replacement products (tvp). Another thing I do often is fix a nice side dish, salad, and then let them eat the meat they want while I just enjoy those or fix myself a soy based alternative. They are all pretty open to the veggie ground and don't typically like to eat much meat as it is. I also keep them aware of the health benefits of vegetarianism and the negative environmental impact that the meat industry has on our planet. ~ PT ~ A painting is never finished - it simply stops in interesting places. ~Paul Gardner, painter ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~~~~> , " ~Janice~ " <serenity1@m...> wrote: > I'm trying to become a vegetarian but nobody in my family is willing to join me. Guest guest
I probably shouldn't have said anything to my family about going vegetarian either. Oh well, it's too late now. I agree with you about going cold turkey. That's what I plan on doing. When I fix something instead of using meat I use TVP. It taste enough like meat that I fooled my daughter. She thought it was meat. I told her it wasn't though. HAM AND EGGS - A day's work for a chicken, a lifetime commitment for a pig. - Sheryl A. Guest guest
btw....do you have any links that you've read about milk? I didn't realize it was that bad for us. Guest guest
Your advice does help. Thank you. I always tell them if they don't like what I cook they can fix their own meal. They're all old enough to cook for themselves. They don't really give me a hard time, but I just worry that I'll be tempted to go back to a meat diet. So far I haven't though. It's only been 2 weeks that I decided to go back on the veg diet. Last week I ordered a P-Zone at Pizza Hut. After I took a few bites I remembered that It had pepperoni in it. Guest guest
About P-zones - they can make veggie P-zones if you ask! I just had one a few hours ago. They make them to order, I had one with shrooms, peppers, olives, onions, and cheese. Yum! --- ~Janice Macak~ <serenity1 wrote: > Your advice does help. Thank you.
