The representative first stated that it contained lanolin. When we asked what the lanolin was for, he responded that it was in Vitamin D used to fortify the milk. " The lanolin is from wool fat, " he said. " " When a fortified food or supplement label says 'vitamin D3 or " cholecalciferol,' that means the origin was animal (generally fish, but sometimes from sheep wool, hides or other animal parts such as cattle brains). Often milk or margarine, which may be thought of as vegetarian products, will contain vitamin D3 of animal origin. We have even found supplements that are labeled 'vegetarian,' yet contain Vitamin D3; upon further inquiry, the suppliers were surprised to realize that the Vitamin D used was of animal origin. Occasionally a soymilk can be found that uses D3 instead of D2, though most have chosen the D2 (plant) form and clearly list D2 on the nutrition panel. I try to use soy milk when I can. Someone said they poured some over their oatmeal. I actually make it with oatmeal. I use a cup of liquid in making my oatmeal. I pour a little soy milk in and the rest is water. It really gives the oatmeal a nice roundness to it. In the past couple weeks I have discovered a new brand of soy milk called 8th Continent. So far, it is only available at Publix in my area. It is sooo good!! I like the plain and vanilla for smoothies and oatmeal. The chocolate tho is absolutely amazing. To me it tastes like the liquidy part that's at the bottom of milkshake. I think it'd be an easy way to give soy protein to a kid. It really tastes like chocolate milk. >> " A mind at peace, a mind centered and not focused on harming others, is stronger than any physical force in the universe. Guest guest
Oh my, how horrible. What exactly is wool fat? Is it just a better way of saying sheep fat? Sorry I promoted this new product so heavily. karen , stleowitch@a... wrote: > Vegetarians in Paradise/ 8th > Continent Soymilk > > " When we called General Mills Consumer Information to inquire if this soymilk > were vegetarian, we were informed that the product was not vegan.
