Guest guest
I have started a group for expounding on the off topic subjects brought up here. Feel free to hang out, and shoot the breeze. The only things not allowed are SPAM, and flaming. theferal_OT/ ~Pixx Sant & Brown wrote: > So, who want to form the group? Guest guest
The off topic chat helped me. It helps to know I'm not the only one with these kinds of problems. I would do so again if I thought that it would help someone through a tough patch - and sometimes onlist postings encourage others to chime in and offer advice too. However, that said, I will be happy to take any such discussions off list ;=) Maybe someone would like to form a kinda mini-list for chatting about bipolar disorder, ADD, and anything else of the kind? If so, I'd be happy to join in where appropriate. (I'm not bipolar, but I've hit some horrendous depressive episodes, some lasting for years and requiring very serious meds.) Even a handful of people might like to *share* their thoughts and problems and experiences together rather than on a one-to-one basis offlist. It helps. And that we are all vegetarians gives us something more in common than the bipolar, etc., thingie. Just a thought. Count me in, anyway ;=) Starting up a list is easy - and you can make it private and by invitation only too, if you like. Guest guest
I agree with Gene that health is really important to us - and that it helps a lot to talk about all aspects of our health, including mental health. Including, for those of us who have been ill in the past, staying healthy ;=) if possible :=( Now I see another post which suggests, as I just did: > when it > starts to dominate is when it is a problem. I > would suggest that if others want to discuss > bi-polar or whatever that they can create a new > as a forum and invite the rest of us > if we wish to join. To continue, it seems, would be to annoy some people - and unfortunately the nature of some disorders precludes the possibility of taking expressions of such annoyance in one's stride. This is no doubt why P.T. didn't try to stop the off-topic chat earlier - knowing how devastating it could be to be told it wasn't relevant to the group when people needed to talk to people they trusted. So, who want to form the group? I'd be happy to, or, as I say, happy to join in. Guest guest
My intention is not to offend or make light of anyone's situation. Lord knows I've been depressed myself. My intention was, however, to note that the volume of messages from this group has increased exponentially lately and it seems that a disproportionate amount of them were discussing psychological issues. Some of these issues could be related to vegetarianism in which it is OK to post a few things about it, but when the new topic itself becomes such a huge discussion it overwhelms the mailboxes of those of us who did not sign up for this list to discuss it and the conversation should be continued elsewhere. My issue is more with the volume of off-topic discussions lately and not the off-topic topic itself. I am certainly aware that I can delete those I don't care to read. I do, however, go out of town sometimes and do not have access to email for a period of time and when that happens my mailbox is so overwhelmed with mail that I can't read and it starts bouncing messages. I really hate to have to leave the list because of the volume of off-topic messages. Anyway, please take this as a polite request for taking off-topic conversations elsewhere. I'm glad to see that someone has started a group for vegetarian off-topic discussions! Guest guest
Very well said Sheryl...I agree. I would not like to see you leave either because of off-topic convos...but most members seem to kindly understand and have mentioned that to the group as of recently. Oh and don't forget the " no mail " option for those get-away vacations. I've been one to bounce too on several occasions " I'm glad to see that someone has started a group for vegetarian off-topic discussions! Woo hoo!! " Oh Yes...thank you Pixx for the initiative in starting the wonderful OT-feral group. May I join? Cheers, Shawn Once, during Prohibition, I was forced to live on nothing but food and water. - W.C. Guest guest
Ah well, trolls cave easy... Please everyone, forget what I said earlier. The last thing I wanted was to hurt feelings or cause people to worry about whether their posts were appropriate or not here. I am sorry. Carry on. I can skim what I am not interested in and reply to those that do interest me. I do think nutritional needs and mental health issues do go hand in hand and can be topical discussions on a veggie list. I know being a vegetarian has helped me with my panic issues. A healthy body is always helpful. I think being a vegetarian gives us an edge. Eating organic and cutting back on the harmful food ingredients, artificial colors etc, has to help our minds as well as our bodies, yes? Oh, but my original netiquette post still stands. Please remember to snip those posts down and remove the excess when replying to a post. Certainly keep a portion so we can follow the reply, but snipping the extra does help make for easy to read digests. Thanks. ~ PT ~ , Sant & Brown <santbrown@l...> wrote: > I agree with Gene that health is really important to us - and that it > helps a lot to talk about all aspects of our health, including mental > health.
