Hey Karen, thanks for the info. on the sea salt and cream cheese. Oh ok I

see why the reason on the sea salt....sounds good. Not a fan at all of

plain cream cheese but flavored for bagels or dips I love. Thanks for the

heads up on the Tofutti...sounds like it's good even without adding any

ingredients...hope the cost is reasonable.

Hi all.

With all this talk about milk (last couple of weeks) and cheese, I finally

broke down last week and got a small carton of soy milk and soy chocolate

milk. It just said " organic silk soy milk " , so I assume it's brand name is

" Silk " or is that the texture, lol. Anyhow, I normally only drink skim

milk, maybe 2% at times. To me, it really doesn't have much taste and is

not nearly as thick (yuck). Yet, my body at times feels the need to gulp

the stuff. As a child, when I would visit my Grandparents (who have a

farm--they had fields of soy when I didn't know what the stuff was), my

Grandmother would have to buy store-bought milk for me only, because they

would drink the fresh cows milk that they had on-hand....it created a nasty

head of cream on top, purely disgusting to me, lol, and I refused to

drink/eat it. This prolly makes me sound like I lived on the 'little house

on the prarie' but I'm actually in my twenties (*winks* to Fopp). Ok, point

being, I don't like any texture or taste in my milk. So I pour a little

glass of the soy and um....ughers, it was off white, thick and sweet tasting

(yes it was plain not vanilla). Now, I bet this stuff would taste great in

cereal or some type of dessert recipe or shake, but I can't take it

straight....now if the chocolate milk tastes anything like it (still

unopened), than that stuff should rock big time.....mmm even better for

desserts and shakes.

So, is there anything out there (rice milk, almond milk etc.) that is just

plain tasting (even no taste) and thin (or fairly thin)? I really don't

drink that much milk to begin with, but if I could find something similar to

the non-taste I am so familiar with, lol, than I would go with a sub.

Any idears...TIA.

TGoodnessIF,

Shawn

Greetings!

Sea salt is suppose to be better for you..not b/c it has less sodium

or anything but due to its strong flavor, you use less.

I've found that there is an amazing cream cheese substitute out

there. It's so good, ya can't tell it isn't the real thing. It's

called 'Better than Cream Cheese' and I think its made by Tofutti.

I've only found it in a local Vegetarian Grocery store, and of course

it's more expensive than reg. cream cheese, but I strongly encourage

giving it a try. I was quite surprised.

We're not cream cheese heads here, but when we occassionally get on a

bagel kick, this is what we use.

Have a wonderful morning groupies,

karen :)

If it is Silk brand you got, the chocolate flavor is FABULOUS. It's nice and

chocolatey without being overly sweet. Nummy!! :)

As for thin milk....turn over the soy, rice, or almond milk to the label and

make sure there's no carageenan in the ingredient list. That's the stuff they

use to thicken it up (it's what they also use to thicken up that premium

fat-free regular milk) and if you like thin, that stuff is just gonna be gross

to you.

As for thin milks, I like almond milk a LOT, but it is a bit sweet. Honestly,

though, I don't even drink it like milk....I drink it more as a treat (like you

would a milkshake or chocolate milk). Rice milk is also pretty thin, and it's

kinda bland, but still sweet. You might like that one, too.

Still, I say your best bet is to watch out for the carageenan! :)

You might try plain rice milk. I think it is much thinner.
