Guest guest
Since becoming a vegetarian I've avoided all products that I think have gelatin in it -- like gummy bears, marshmallows, jelly beans, etc. I checked a package of Mike 'n Ikes today and gelatin wasn't listed. Why would they be gelatin-free, but not jelly beans? Does someone have the specifics on this? Is there another name for gelatin that is slipping past me? Thanks, Tempest SBC DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!
Guest guest
I remember reading on a site or forum somewhere mike and ikes are vegan, although i don't remember where or why, so i can't confirm this. also, there is a vegetarian gelatin out there, the only problem is Jello company insists on using animal parts and they make up like 80% of the gelatin market. Guest guest
I bought some Noxema face cleansing cream the other day...not even thinking about ingredients....and low and behold when I got it home and used it, I happened to look at the ingredients and there it was: GELATIN. What in the world would gelatin add to face cleansing cream? I just couldn't believe it. , " dave " <dave4sale> wrote: > I remember reading on a site or forum somewhere mike and ikes are > vegan, although i don't remember where or why, so i can't confirm > this. also, there is a vegetarian gelatin out there, the only problem > is Jello company insists on using animal parts and they make up like > 80% of the gelatin market. Guest guest
Check the ingredients on jelly beans; many use food starch rather than gelatin. Jelly Belly brand is ok. I found one brand of low fat yogurt that doesn't use gelatin; Food Lion. --- Be kind. Be of good cheer. Dick
Guest guest
Your local Whole Foods or similar market is a great place to find alternatives to mass-produced products that use gelatin. I even found vegan gummy bears at Whole Foods...haven't been asked yet if it's okay for a vege to eat them, a la the animal cracker silliness.
