Hey Kelly,

I know this is coming totally out of left field, but maybe this info will be

helpful to you (a year ago it changed my life). Your BMI is high enough that

most major insurance companies would consider one of the various types of weight

loss surgery (also commonly known as stomach stapling, although that's not

exactly how it's done any more) medically necessary for you and would therefore

cover the bill. If you are willing to undergo major surgery and adopt the

lifestyle change that comes with it, you might want to look into that option.

Re: Weight gain

Well I'm desparately trying to lose weight. Hence one of the reason

for becoming vegetarian. I'm 243 @ 5'7''. I know I'm a cow, whatever

I'm trying. I've been taking in between 1200 to 1300 calories for about

a month and a half (maybe a little longer) and then this past week or

so I stopped eating meat completely and the exercises I've already

mentioned.

Its just frustrating because before the past week or so with the

exercise and stopping of meat I had been losing (15lbs total) and then after

the change in meat and exercise (which to me doesn't sound like a whole

lot of exercise or even that extreme muscle building granted it is yoga

and pilates) I gained back almost 5lbs now.

I guess my pants fit about the same as the 15lb loss, I mean they

didn't get tighter but I'm looking for looser not the same! ;)

Thanks for all the imput everyone, I'm just stumped I guess... or i'll

just have to pretend i'm gaining so much muscle! =P

Malinda,

I don't currently have insurance, and if I ever did I don't think I would do it

and even if I would do it, my boyfriend most likely wouldn't let me. I believe

I could do it on my own. I mean I'm not as huge as Carney Wilson or Al Roker,

surgery would definately be a last resort. I believe I can do it on my own...

I've done it before, I just don't understand why its taking so long to kick in

this time.

My boyfriend tells me my body is adjusting to the diet change (no meat) and once

it gets used to it the pounds will just drop off. Ok... waiting for that to

happen.

I've heard that 1 out of 200 people die from that surgery and to me that is

pretty scary odds for something I can do with a little patience and will power.

I used to weigh 150 and I believe I can get there again, if not then we'll see,

and maybe by then I'll have insurance. (My boyfriend of 7 years should marry me

just for the insurance!! ;)

Okay, that's cool. I was just throwing it out there for ya. I

mean, as far as being as big as Carnie or Al, that makes no

difference -- a person is considered morbidly obese at 100 lbs

overweight, so they don't have to be as big as Carnie or Al was.

The very sad thing is that the odds of someone who is morbidly obese

losing their excess weight and keeping it off long-term are about

one in a thousand. I pray that you are the one!! (I certainly

wasn't!)

I've done it before so maybe I won't be able to then. I'd at least like to

try... I'm trying real nutrition a life style change as opposed to fad diets.

If I can't do it and I ever get insurance I would consider the surgery, just

right now its not an option nor would I like to do it at this point in my life.

And its scary.
