Guest guest
You need to eat more complex carbs and more calories, at least 1200 a day, or your body shuts down. Guest guest
NOT!!! If this were actually true, then people who fast (and take in ZERO calories) would be in deep trouble. From personal experience, I can fast for a week (drinking only water) and still jog 4 1/2 miles each day without any feeling that my body has shut down. Guest guest
I can see the human body allowing for a week with no adverse effects. But what about the longer periods of time it would take to lose more than the weight one would lose in a week? Say, for example, someone who has 95 pounds to lose. Guest guest
I'm assuming you refer to my email about fasting for a week. Diet alone in not a solution for permenant weight loss, and fasting for extreme periods of time is probably not a good solution either. My sources say that for a healthy diet, calorie-wise, a woman ought to have 1,200 - 1,400 cal/day. A man ought to have 1,600 - 1,800 cal/day. Clearly, this is intended to be a guideline b/c each person's situation is different. More strenuous activity would over time require more calories. Ultimately, I believe there is probably a lower limit for calorie consumption for someone to remain healthy, but I don't remember ever seeing anything like that in print from a serious medical source. Guest guest
There is some recent research out there, with rats, about how when their calorie intake was reduced by 40% or so, they were found to live longer. (the control group ate as much as they damn well pleased). i guess the idea is that because of their hoarding instinct rats don't know when to say when. the researchers suggested this might also apply to humans based on the theory that metabolism causes aging. Guest guest
This idea is actually not new. It's formalized in the " calorie reduction " movement. There is also a CR Society focused on promoting it. Normally, they are not veggie. My earlier calorie numbers of 1,200 and 1,600 were taken from them.
