If I may ask, why and when (how often) do you choose to fast?

Do you do it for detox or health-type purposes?

I ask b/c I have heard about the practice from some

before, but am interested in it from the POV

of someone who actually does fasting.

Aside from the religious or shamanistic aspects of

fasting, I know very little about the benefits.

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass

under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur

of the water, or watching the clouds float across the

sky, is by no means a waste of time.

Very good question...actually I don't remember my original reason. It was

over twenty years ago when I started. Today, I do it because it's become an

inseparable part of who I am. It does detox the body b/c without food, the

body scavengers for the waste left behind in every cell.

As I think about what I gain from fasting, it's probably most of all an

intangable. My being has four dimensions--physical, emotional, mental, and

spiritual. Fasting separates me from the planet in a limited sense and aids

in renewing the connectedness of my being.

I lose around six pounds in a weeklong week. Within a week or so, it's all

back. For me, it's not about losing weight. It's about much more than

that, and it's all hard to put into words.

I'm not sure I know how to tell someone to do it. It sounds simple

enough--just don't eat, but there's more. You must have water. I sometimes

squeeze a lemon slice into mine. The tap water in some areas is bad, so I

filter all of mine.

If you take vitamins or medications, do not stop taking them. Continue your

normal activities. During the first 36 hours, if you expercience anything

besides your hunger, then STOP immediately. Eat several small meals over

the next 6 hours.

Much is written about fasting. If you want to fast, read about it first.

Don't take my opinion or my experiences as what will work for you. Check it

out for yourself b/c what works for me may not work the same way for you.
