Basically, the concept is to " read, register, & release " . read a book, register it at the BookCrossing site, and release it in " the wild " [meaning " give it to a friend, leave it on a park bench, donate it to charity, " forget " it in a coffee shop, etc " ]. But many of the members have gotten into what's called bookrings or bookrays. meaning that they announce a book they have ready to release, and people PM [private message] them to say they are interested in the book....then it goes to the first person, who mails it to the next person, who mails it to the next, etc. a ray keeps going, a ring goes back to the owner at the end. it's all really cool.....I have been a member for a few months, and have read many books all for the cost of postage to the next person. [which at 'media rate' has been under 2 or 3 bucks!] go to the site and check it out..... they don't sell your info or anything, so you wont get any spam from signing up! they have forums on the site, and there are a few groups at that announce books and talk books etc. I'll try to get that sig line to come through...... so look below! ~Pixx ------ Books just wanna be FREE! Guest guest
Oh, I forgot one thing that makes it all so cool.....each person who reads it, can journal on the site what they thought of it.....so, when you send out a book, you get to see what every one else thought of it. Also, if there is a book you want to know if it's good or not, go to BookCrossing, do a book search for the title, and if there is a copy in circulation there, you can see what everyone thought of it! If you want to buy it, there are links to Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other sites on *each* book, so you go directly to *that book* on the sales site of whatever company you would rather buy from [but only if you want to!] you can do this without being a member [but not the rings and rays or make journals~ have to be a member for those~ free membership, so 'just do it!'...lol] Pixx On 25 Jun 2003 at 20:41, Pixx wrote: ~Janice~ wrote: What is bookcrossing?
