Guest guest
Mikes post and this article " http://www.peta.org/feat/vegcities/ " got me thinking. Do / have any of you live/d in cities with lots of vegetarian restaurants and stores? I am thinking that after college I might want to move to Portland (#4) because i've heard it has a low cost of living, is easier to get environmentally friendly power sources and tends to be more liberal, but i wanted to hear from someone who's actually lived there. san fransisco sounds too hot for me. so any cool veg friendly cities not on peta's list? Guest guest
**so any cool veg friendly cities not on peta's list? Santa Fe,NM isn't too bad. For a city of like 50,000 they have I think 2 Wild Oats stores and a Whole Foods store and other locall- owned places. They also know what it means when you ask for vegetarian food in most restaurants. Boulder, CO is VERY veggie friendly too. It's the home of veggie- friendly and has lots of stores and restaurants. Of course, both cities have notoriously high costs-of-living. I live in Albuquerque, which is an hour away from Santa Fe, is much cheaper to live in and is relatively veggie-friendly. When I need more friendliness than that, I just drive to Santa Fe!! Bend, OR is another good one. I just loved it in Bend and they certainly knew what veggie and vegan meant at the restaurants! Bend has a much drier climate than Portland. So, if you don't like the rain, Bend is drier, if you prefer rain, go to Portland.
Guest guest
i think austin, texas is a cool veggie city (more so than houston). i'm surprised it wasn't on the peta list. i have never lived in portland, dave. but, i have a friend who lives there and she says the cost of living is outrageous. i think the cost of living is high everywhere. : ) it would be worth paying extra to live in a liberal city tho. susie --- dave <dave4sale wrote: > Mikes post and this article > " http://www.peta.org/feat/vegcities/ " > got me thinking. Guest guest
Although I haven't had any problems with a veggie lifestyle in Houston or resources for that matter, I would like to add that Austinites (or whatever Austin dwellers are called), are a very tolerant people, imo. Many alternative lifestyles are welcomed. And if you're lucky, you'll run into Sandra Bullock. Great Place! Guest guest
i'm surprised vegas wasn't somewhere on the list. while we're kinda short on exclusively vegetarian restaurants, there are a good number of ethinic, chinese, buffets & other restaurants with a variety of vegetarian-friendly choices. megan
Guest guest
I am thinking that most college-towns are going to be very friendly to veggies and alternative lifestyles. I forgot to mention Ann Arbor, MI where the University of MI is located. I once went to an all-veggie restaurant there called Seva and had the hardest time making up my mind as to what I wanted! I wasn't used to such a selection! I went to MI State in East Lansing, MI and it is relatively friendly, but I think Ann Arbor is more so. The only problem with colleg-towns is that, of course, it tends to increase the cost of living. Ugh. > Although I haven't had any problems with a veggie lifestyle in Houston or > resources for that matter, I would like to add that Austinites (or whatever > Austin dwellers are called), are a very tolerant people, imo.
