Guest guest
Right now I'm reading " Lies My History Teacher Told Me; Everything Your High School History Book Got Wrong " . IMHO it is very good and actually fairly interresting. Nothing in it has really shocked me. It is just that sometimes we don't realize just how horrible things were until we see some numbers (i.e. the Europeans' extermination of the Native Americans). It also gave me a better idea of just how corporations and the govt censor the info that we receive in school.

Guest guest
Here's another possible recommendation - it's not out yet but I was listening to a piece on the radio about it on the way to work today. Fox is apparently suing the publisher (over the content and the fact that it apparently looks like a Bill O'Reilly book), so it must be good. ;-) " Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right " by Al Franken, ISBN: 0525947647 , due out Sept 22nd. Guest guest
well, if it p*sses off state television (fox) then it must be worth reading. --- Paul Russell <prussell wrote: > Fox is apparently suing the publisher (over the > content and the fact > that it apparently looks like a Bill O'Reilly book), > so it must be > good. ;-) > > " Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and > Balanced Look at > the Right " by Al Franken, ISBN: 0525947647 , due > out Sept 22nd. > > Regards, > > Paul > > -- >
Guest guest
>well, if it p*sses off state television (fox) then it >must be worth reading. > Absolutely - Fox really seems to have its panties in a bunch over this - some of the content in its depositions in the court case against the publisher is just plain hysterical. Woohoo - I think I'm going to pre-order this from Amazon so that I get it as soon as it hits the streets. Paul --
Guest guest
to that list i'd also like to recommend anything by bill bryson. he's a great travel writer, but he also puts in a lot of information about, for instance, the destruction of america's natural forests ( " a walk in the woods " ), and that sort of thing. i'm currently reading his " in a sunburned country " , and have just finished the part where he explains the torture and murder of the aborigines in australia. you won't find that in any standard australian history book. melody http://www.melodysmusic.net

He was here in Santa Cruz recently signing his latest book, but unfortunately I missed him. Maybe next time. Cheers, Paul --
