My bf is an omnivoire, as are his 3 kids. My roommate is also an

omnivoire. I do most of the cooking at my house (my roommate works long

hours), and I don't cook meat for any of them. However, she's certainly

welcome to store and cook meat herself - she pays half the rent,

afterall.

When the bf is here, he happily eats vegetarian meals and enjoys them.

At his house he prepares things that I can eat, but will occasionally

cook meat as well. His kids think it's fun to " help " figure out what to

cook for me that didn't have a face (easy way for the 3 and 5 yrs olds

to differentiate what I will and won't eat), but they tend to prefer

meals that include meat, probably because that's what they're used to

eating at their mother's house (shared custody). I don't think the 17

yr old (who lives with him full time) eats at all!

When we go out to eat, he's careful to make sure that the menu has

things that I'll enjoy and will call ahead to make sure they can

accommodate my dietary preferences when we go to new places. He's at

the point now that he usually only eats meat when he has the kids or

when we go out, and even when we go out he eats veg meals a fair amount

of the time.

We talk a lot about the health benefits of a vegetarian diet and various

other dietary options. He's respectful of my choices, and I'm

respectful of his. I won't try to change his eating habits, but I do

share information with him and he's very open to listening to it. He's

made a lot of changes to his diet and is learning to prepare healthier

meals. I send him veg recipies, and he follows me around the kitchen

writing down what I'm cooking sometimes. And he takes home a LOT of

leftovers!

Since I'm vegetarian for health reasons not ethical ones, this works

just fine for me (and for everyone else involved).
