Guest guest
Hey There, Does anybody know of a GOOD and factual book regarding the massive slaughter/treatment of animals in this country. My stepdaughter who visits us, is now asking us questions regarding why we are vegetarians.....I gave her some personal reasons but want her to get a fuller picture than that. She is an avid reader and she said if we gave her a book on it she would read it. I would like her to be a vegetarian as well of course, but won't force her (nor could I if I wanted to since she doesn't live with us)....I believe a good factual book will probably turn her stomach and change her mind or at least " enlighten " her. Please let me know of any titles and/or author....if you have an ISBN number that would be great too, but not nessessary. Thanks! Guest guest
I'm not sure about books.....but sometimes seeing gets the point across better than the printed word. How about the video " meet your meat " [ http://www.meetyourmeat.com ] or have her sit in front of the computer at PETA TV [ http://www.petatv.com ] there's lots of video clips there. But take a look at it yourself first- so you can pick and choose. I don't know her age, or what you deem appropriate. Both sites are put out by PETA, and are quite graphic. There is a 'for kids' video clips section at the second site; scroll down at the home page. ~Pixx< who just finished watching the meetyourmeat video again [been a year or so since I've seen those clips], and is wiping away tears that wont stop..... It's not just about the fast food industry, it's more. It covers every aspect of the meat industry, from what goes on in the slaughterhouses, to what is in the meat, and the politics behind it all. I would think anyone who reads it would think twice about eating meat, or letting their child buy food from the school lunch program. Parts of this book made me so angry. And sickened. How has our civilization gotten so far off track?

THE FOOD REVOLUTION by John Robbins. He is a vegan and gave up his inheritance from Baskin-Robbins because of his beliefs. The book will make any meat eater quit eating at least chicken and hamburger. FAST FOOD NATION is also good, but not exactly the same.
