Is a fish an animal? Some people would say no. I think it is though.

Why is a fish not an animal to some people? I just don't get it!

It belongs to the animal kingdom and is obviously not a plant. I

never understood that logic.

I don't get it either. But I guess that's the way some minds work. Maybe it's

because it doesn't have legs.

hmmm......lobsters have legs. i think a lot of people don't think

lobsters are meat either!!!

a friend of mine suggested that i should be able to eat a sea

cucumber. i don't know much about them, but she said they don't

have faces, eyes or legs and that they attach to something in the

sea, so they don't move either. i'll betcha they have a central

nervous system, though!! (I had to add that part to my list

of " won't eats " since my friend brought up the sea cucumber.)

Ugh, I just got a digest from another vegetarian list I am

on and these two women were gushing back and forth

giving eachother cooking tips for seasoning and deboning

trout! Gods! I finally had to say something. It is bad enough

for me to wade through meat-filled posts on some of my

other cooking lists that are for everyone, not just vegetarians,

but to have to read such horrid descriptions on a vegetarian

list is rather sickening to me. I'll no doubt get flamed for

my response, but I just couldn't see letting that slide.

These ladies are obviously of the ilk that believes fish to be

non-meat items.

Funny they have to debone those non-meats foods eh?

even insects belong to the animal kingdom.. Scientists do not

consider apes or other animals who only eat insects and fruit

herbivores. I think the " fish is not a meat " claim is due to a

combination of what gene said (people lying to themselves) and also

just going along with what almost everyone else says... Grocery

stores have a separate section for meat and " seafood " . I swear I

overheard a lady say " I'm a vegetarian, but I do love fish. " This

seems peculiar because she seems to be acknowledge that fish is a

meat, but still considers herself vegetarian.

When my gf went on a cruise w/ her family she ordered a vegetarian

meal. She noticed a fishy-esque substance in it. When she asked the

waiter what it was, he said, " fish. " She then reminded him that it

was the vegetarian plate. He then replied, " Oh, then it must be

tofu. " Her parents then told her she was being rude. So some people

clearly recognize fish is not vegetarian but apparently there are

enough people claiming to be veg who don't complain or care when they

are served fish.

I just watched 'About Smidt' last night [total bore] and there was a

couple scenes that really grossed me out....I know it isn't about

vegetarianism, so seeing meat in a movie might be

expected......but these cooking scenes were way to graphic.

sea cucumbers are related to starfish and sea urchins, they are not

vegetables as their name might imply.

neither does Christopher Reeves, but I still consider him an animal.

There was an episode of Trading Spaces where Genevieve used meat as

art. It was pretty darn gross. She used the meat to make into

shapes and took pictures of it and hung it on the walls of this

home. I know I'd have been furious if that was my house!

no, and sea cucumbers don't move on their own either, but i think

they would both have central nervous systems, so they can be

included as " animals " . that's why there are several different

things you can use to include something as an animal (ie: nervous

system, mouths, locomotion) don't they also take in food through

mouths and have stomachs??

The moderator? Oh no, there isn't one and hasn't been

for a long time over there at Quick_vegetarian list.

That's why it keeps getting hit with spam and non-vegetarian

recipe posts etc. Don't even look in their files section unless

you have a strong stomach; full of horrid links that aren't worthy

of being called porn. *lol*

I actually didn't get flamed, last I checked. One lady agreed

with me and the two who posted the meat-talk apologised.

However, one of them added that she only posted the fish

stuff because it was her understanding that SOME vegetarian

still ate fish-meat. *sigh* Can you say here we go again? ;)
