Guest guest
you can usually find vegetarian / vegan gelatins in a health food store... i think they're made with fruit pectin, the same thing that's in jelly. , " nicole Panos " <N1kolleta@h...> wrote: > hello came acros sa recipe..for teh first time today i bought soy > sleder sugar free and it has a custard recipe on the back..what can i > use in place of? arrowroot?cornstarch? not sure..i have actually > NEVER made a custard lol its cappuccino flavored ANDwow is it yummy.. > thanks in advance > Niccii

Guest guest
I'm pretty sure Kosher gelatins (sold in small boxes, the size of JELL-O) are vegan. Especially now, during a month that includes Jewish holidays, you can find this item in many large supermarket chain stores....sometimes, you can even find " plain " unflavored - the brand I have seen is called KO-JEL (spelling may be a little off Love, Cherie > Re: substitute for gelatin needed ..ideas? > > you can usually find vegetarian / vegan gelatins in a health food > store... i think they're made with fruit pectin, the same thing > that's in jelly. > >

Guest guest
You can use a substance called agar agar. Its plant based and acts exactly like geletine. You just have to play with it a bit at first, because its a little fussy to work with, and if you use just a fraction to much it isn't very nice. You should be able to find agar agar in health food stores. Michelle
Guest guest
a tip in shopping for agar agar. check your local oriental market first, if you have one. chances are you'll find it MUCH cheaper than a health foods store. I bought a large bag of agar strings for $3.?? at an oriental market as opposed to $5-$6 for one piddly ounce of agar flakes at wild oats or whole foods here in las vegas. megan - Michelle Wednesday, October 01, 2003 5:50 PM Re: substitute for gelatin needed ..ideas?
