Guest guest
i did some googling and answered my own question. Occasionally they are made with sheepskin, but I think that is phasing out. apparently many condom companies test their spermacides / lubricants on animals (I don't know or care to know precisely how). Also, condoms often contain casein (the same milk protein often put into soy cheese). However, the brand Condomi is considered vegan. They are available in 8 varieties (Supersafe, Strong, Nature, Fruit Flavoured, Extra Large, Mix, Noppy, and Hand-Painted Fun) and can be purchased online at http://www.vegansociety.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=
Guest guest
i'm of the mind that as long as they work with my and my significant other and I don't get pregnant, i don't care what the heck it's made out of (fyi, i think spermicide ones are just icky overall). Guest guest
Yeah, we know, you've made it quite clear you don't care about animal suffering.. but this link was for the benefit of those who do. , " Megan Milligan " <yasminduran@c...> wrote: > i'm of the mind that as long as they work with my and my significant other > and I don't get pregnant, i don't care what the heck it's made out of (fyi, i think spermicide ones are just icky overall). > > Megan
Guest guest
Now, ... she is a vegan, so I think it is safe to say she does have quite a bit of concern about animal suffering. Just b/c there are different types of vegetarians and we have different reasons for how we started and what part of the path we are on, doesn't mean we are cold to animal suffering. We have different approaches and ways we express our concern and each of us does as we can where we are. We must encourage and keep in mind we have much in common and its all good. Thanks so much for researching and finding the info on vegan condoms and sharing it here. If you haven't done so already, I will place a copy of the link into our links section so people can find it when they need it. Guest guest
I may have confused Megan with someone else on this list, if so I would gladly apologize to her... but I seem to remember her posting that she is a strictly dietary vegan and that she continues to buy leather because it's essential to her style... Was I completely illogical to conclude from this and then the post about " i don't care what it's made out of " that she doesn't care about animal suffering? that being said, I didn't intend to make her so upset she would leave. I was just a bit pissed off... I mean, what could the point of that post possibly have been other than to scoff at those of us who are vegetarian/vegan for moral reasons? must every post agree with her views? I don't have a problem with any of the members here who are not veggie for ethical reasons. but to me that post would be similar to me replying to every single lacto-ovo recipe posted with " oh, i don't eat dairy and eggs, why did you post this? Guest guest
I see your point, and yes, she is the one who claimed dietary vegan who likes to wear leather. I see why you were annoyed by her post. I was just saying that I think she does care some for animal suffering, as do I....even though I am lacto-ovo. I guess I just don't bother judging folks as who is more concerned for animals and would rather just encourage and tell everyone who is a vegetarian that they are doing great and keep at it. I feel no matter where they are on the veggie path, at least they are on the right path.
