Some vets, one of mine, thinks that Actually they HAVE to eat meat, it's the only way for them to get taurine, which is needed for muscle control I believe (trying hard to remember the function of taurine from classes 4 years ago!) I don't feed my dogs vegetarian, but I do supplement with veggies. I have to be careful with one dog, he's got a propensity for developing urinary crystals (and hence stones) so I have to feed him a special diet, and he's only allowed the veggies for treats. Speaking of that, does anyone else's animals come running when they hear the knife hitting the cutting board? It's as bad as the cheese wrapper and my cats! And my other pug LOVES wasabi peas! Anyway, here's a recipe for a Veggie dog food from Laurel's Kitchen. I haven't tried, but I've wanted to for my other dog. Heck, I make cornbread for my birds, why not the food for my puggies? Just remember if you are changing their diet, do it slow, mix like 1/4 of the new with the old and slowly increase the new and decrease the old. There's less chance for diarrhea, or even the " gas " that they pretend didn't come from them. Basic " Doggie Dinner " 2 tbsp oil 1 cooked egg 2 cups cooked vegetables, blended unless very soft 1 tbsp nutritional yeast 1 cup milk (I would be careful with this, unless your dogs are used to milk, it can give diarrhea....) bread ends and leftover cooked cereals and beans Morning is the best time to feed dogs, and once-a-day feeding is quite adequate (tell that to my dogs!). Let your pet's size and activity determine the amount you feed him - about 2 quarts of the basic dinner mixture seems right for an active 75 lb dog. Some owners like to cut back on the breakfast and provide a snack later in the day: dogs like bread and peanut butter as much as kids do. The vitamins in the nutritional yeast (wheat germ is good too) will help protect your pup against fleas and the eggs with keep his coat shiny. Don't worry about the yolks - dogs apparently have to cholesterol worries!

My dogs sit around my island in my kitchen when I make salads. They love cabbage and snow peas. When I want them to come inside I just yell, who wants a snow pea and they all come running. They don't like carrots though which I find odd.
