Guest guest
I had many small pieces of veggies left over and decided to make a veggie hash last night. Started with potato cubes and onions, then added: zucchini, yellow squash, green beans, corn, carrots, broccoli and mushrooms. I added salt and pepper and garlic but it needed more flavoring. Do any of you make a hash and what do you add to season it? thanks Jane
Guest guest
Jane, If you will saute your onions and garlic first that will intensify their flavor. I like to dump in Mrs. Dash, Lowry's seasoning salt, or things like that. If you like hot, toss in a hot pepper (minus seeds) or add a little hot sauce. I also like the flavor of soy sauce so I sometimes use it. Hope this helps, Shara - twoslim Friday, July 19, 2002 6:57 PM idea needed/hash I had many small pieces of veggies left over and decided to make a veggie hash last night. Guest guest
Hi, When I make a veggie stew (or soup), I add a bay leaf. Don't know if that would work for hash. 'Cause you leave it whole and remove before serving. But I like the flavor. You might also add some parsley or cilantro. Max
Guest guest
when zucchini season picks up, my family and i have always fried zucchini with onions, mushrooms, peppers, garlic, and added tomatoes near the end of the cooking. we season it with salt and pepper and g. washington's broth. i don't know if you can find this all over the country; there's only one grocery store in my hometown that sells it. (i'm in ohio.) at any rate, it comes in small foil packets and is available in several in several flavors. we usually use the golden which they recommend substituting for chicken broth. but there is a " brown " flavor which they often substitute for beef broth and i think an onion and a vegetable flavor also. if you're opposed to salt, you probably wouldn't like it, but we use it in spaghetti sauces and other recipes as well. enjoy... rita " Home is what catches you when you fall -- and we all fall.
