Guest guest
Hi Elizabeth! I have a daughter by that name with the same concerns, good nutrition and no time to eat. She likes those expensive protein bars so I have been looking into alternatives. She is so-so about these, but I love them and take them to work myself. Maybe they would work for you? I've found you can add stuff and nothing seems to ruin these... Cream together: 1 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup white sugar 1/2 cup margarine (softened) Then add: 1 TBSP honey 1/2 tsp vanilla 1 egg Stir in dry ingredients: 1 cup flour 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1 1/2 cups rolled oats Optional: 1 cups chocolate chips 1 cup raisins or other dried fruit 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup nuts 1/2 cup wheat germ I have also added ground flax seed, brewers (nutritional) yeast, and I plan to get some protein powder and try that. As long as you keep these dry ingredients in about the same amount (decrease flour as you add other stuff) it seems to work out fine. The origional recipe also called for rice crispies, 1 1/4 cup. I do NOT recommend this - hard little nuggets that were most annoying. Maybe another cereal would be better? Bake: grease a 9x13 pan, press mix in, make for 20-25 min at 350. Microwave: (I haven't tried this) medium power 7-9 minutes, rotating dish every three minutes Firms as it stands after cooking. Cut into bars when cool use crumbs for ice cream topping Kris --- shyla580 <Shyla580 wrote: > Hi everybody, > I'm new to the group and just wanted to say hello. Guest guest
Wow, this sounds great, I never thought about making granola bars. Guest guest
Thanks for the recipe. I can't wait to try it out. I'm always on the run because of my heavy class loads so this will be perfect. My friends are going to try the recipe too....you may have started a trend for my college thanks again! ~Elizabeth , Kris <kristc99> wrote: > Hi Elizabeth!
