Guest guest
Does anyone where I could find information concerning the law that requires restaurants to have ingredient lists available to consumers? Because I'm doing a project and I'm trying to say that since restaurants have to, why shouldn't school cafeterias, have to? I know there is no law about schools in particular, but I'm doing a persuasive speech on why they should have to? Does anyone have a story about a school cafeteria and not knowing the ingredients in their food? If so, I would like to use your story in my persuasive speech. Thanks! Guest guest
I was under the impression that restaurants weren't required by law to have ingredient lists available to customers. I'm assumming such laws could differ by state but where I live it is generally only fast- food joints that have ingredient lists of their food. They usu state that it is given as a " courtesy to our customers " . If you do come across laws governing such, I would appreciate the info. karen , Mickey4jes@a... wrote: > Does anyone where I could find information concerning the law that requires > restaurants to have ingredient lists available to consumers? The FDA does not appear to have such power, and they'd be the ones to deal with it, one would think. http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/dailys/00/Dec00/121400/ans0002.pdf At this time, the FDA can suggest that it would be a nice thing for restaurants to do, but it sure isn't *required* in the US. A similar situation seems to exist in Europe. http://www.emrarestaurants.com/emradocuments/D_1101_425_EB_ProposalforaDirective\ _ingredientspresentinfoodstuffs44f51313.doc Sorry to set back your speech... Guest guest
Since I was a " volunteer parent " at the time of this story, I can give you a generalization: Several children in my daughter's pre- school class are members of a religion which does not eat meat (I want to say Hindu and the children are Pakistani, if that will clarify). The parents always send the main entree, but the child eats with the rest of the class the sides. The day I was volunteering was mashed potatoes in gravy, and I was about to hand her the plate when the light flashed: " Does the gravy have meat in it? " " No. It's powder. " " Well is it beef gravy? " " Yes... but she eats it all the time! " I made them get the four year old new potatoes and she went on... But I am pretty sure that the other 365 days they slopped the gravy on just the same. -dawn , Mickey4jes@a... wrote: > Does anyone where I could find information concerning the law that requires > restaurants to have ingredient lists available to consumers? > Because I'm doing a project and I'm trying to say that since restaurants have > to, why shouldn't school cafeterias, have to?
