Guest guest
Hello, I became a vegetarian 10 years ago after reading an article I came across in a magazine about chickens. I was never a big meat eater before that, it use to gross me out, but that was the final straw for me. I decided that day that I was going to be a vegetarian and here I am 10 years later still a veggie! My husband became one 3 months after I did and now we are also raising our daughter vegetarian. When I made the decision I got ahold of every vegetarian book that I could find to learn everything! Now I am writing my own... :-) I also write magazine articles about vegetarian issues. Congrats on going veg! You may want to check out the VeggieBoards if you haven't done so, it's www.veggieboards.com, it's a good place to chat with other people, just like the on it's in a board format. :-) Jacqueline BodnarAuthor - "Vegetarian Resource Book: A to Z Reference Guide to Vegetarianism"http://www.jacquelinebodnar.com/vegbook.htm
Guest guest
I've only been a vegetarian for one month. I decided the day after Christmas, I woke up and said " I'm not going to eat meat anymore " to my husband, he thought I had gone insane. I have been studying Buddhism after a trip to China in 2003 and usually Buddhists don't eat meat because it involves killing another living being and that is something that Buddhists just don't do. Right after I decided that, I saw Meet Your Meat, the Peta video on animal cruelty and that further convinced me that I didn't need meat anymore and so far, I've really enjoyed being a vegetarian. In fact, I think the food I eat now is much tastier, and healthier and my digestive system seems to have improved dramatically. I feel confident that this has been a permanent change for me now, and have no intentions on ever going back to my old eating habits. Especially because there are so many great choices out there now for vegetarians. So, just for fun, I wanted to hear about stories from other people here in the group about when you decided to become a vegetarian and why. Guest guest
I became vegetrian 13 years ago after my son who at the time was in Nursery school got in to the car after school one day and asked me we turkey came from. I said you know what a turkey is, he said gross I am never eating that again... He still eats meat, and so does my husband, however I stopped. I was never a big meat eater, and now I think if I ate meat I would get very sick. My daughter went veg a couple of years after that and has been one ever since she just turned 15. gayle
Guest guest
Lee, I am turning vegetarian but I also am now following a buddhist lifestyle too. I also have seen the Peta video's and no doubt they turn my stomach everytime I then see meat of any kind. I have a hard time because I also have food allergies. I am allergic (to name a few), to wheat, soy, legumes, nuts (all), bananas, melons (all), fish (all), and a few other small food items here and there. I think I have an egg allergy too, but I use that product called Ener-G Egg Replacer in baking anyway. I have been trying to find where I can get my protein source. With my allergies, it has been very hard to figure out what I can eat and still meet the vitamin my body needs. I do take a multivitamin. My turning point has been recenting with me following the Buddhist path. I was already at the point though that I can't eat seafood of any kind, I don't eat pork, rarely ate red meat, no turkey, so my biggest one I've given up is chicken. I have been eating cheese, yogurt, breads, veggie chili, etc. I do have some help, my friend is vegetarian but going vegan. I can't go that far with my allergy issues, but I help her along the way as much as I can! Heather

Sorry, I know that was graphic! I just stopped and don't find it hard because I haven't craved any meat at all. But sometimes I get bored eating thee same things. My friend is a vagan also, I support her, but feel that animals produce certain things to help one another survive. We don't have to kill them, but we can help one another. Thats how i feel, but admoire people that can live that sort of lifestyle. I take vitamins also. Women's Ultra Mega.
