Guest guest
What is that????? Donna organic_homestead <organic_homestead wrote: pink (blamange), yellow (custard) and white (whipped cream). Is that how you know trifle? Have you ever made it since being a vegetarian? I know we've discussed alternatives to gelatin here on the group and I'm wondering if I could fake a jello, so I too can enjoy trifle this season. Thanks, Denise
Guest guest
blancmange [bluh-MAHN , ZH] A simple cooked pudding made of milk, cornstarch, sugar and vanilla. Gelatin may be substituted for the cornstarch. The hot mixture is poured into a mold, chilled, unmolded and served with a sweet sauce or fresh fruit. The original blancmange used pulverized almonds in lieu of cornstarch. © Copyright Barron's Educational Services, Inc. 1995 based on THE FOOD LOVER'S COMPANION, 2nd edition, by Sharon Tyler Herbst. Guest guest
Blamange is a type of custard, not sure if it comes in different colors, but the stuff my mom made was always pink. After making it (mom cheated and used a powder from England), refrigerate until set. I found these websites after Googling blamange: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blancmange http://www.caribbeanavenue.com/kitchen/recipes/blamange009.shtml Denise , purplepassion <thelilacflower> wrote: > > > What is that????? > Donna > organic_homestead <organic_homestead> wrote: > pink (blamange), yellow > (custard) and white (whipped cream).
