veggies by force! *lol*

Superman has his kryptonite and linda has her celery.

Now we know her weakness! hahaha

But back to forced foods...

My parents did that to me with spinach, onions, and

green peppers; oh, and don't forget lima beans.

But the weird thing is, i love all of them now!

Hard to believe i would have little pickie-piles of discarded

veggie bits on my plate... if i saw an onion, i picked it

out and into the pile it went. *lol*

Now spinach, well, my mom just cooked it into a gross

slimey pile that reminded me of a cow-pie; sure smelled

like one, too. First time i had it cooked right i loved it

though.

Celery: hated it as a child, but love it now. Remember

that ad jingle " Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee! " ? Well, i

thought they were singing, " nobody doesn't like celery "

....and i would get so angry with those TV people because

i didn't like celery and i knew i wasn't alone in this! *lol*

No fan of cooked beets,

yeah ya know, I don't hate any vegetable. The only veggie I don't like

is okra (hush Donna) But I could still eat it.

Some people hate things I have noticed because they were forced to eat

them as a child. I am so glad that my parents made me try things yes,

but never, " YOU ARE GONNA EAT EVERYTHING ON YOUR PLATE "

nonsense.

Love the Sara Lee/Celery! That is a hoot and how many times did all of us

discover over the years how many things we misheard. I love this one though.

Especially since it is about " celery. " Hey, by the way, I love beets, cooked or

those pickled ones in the can...

Ha ha ha, PT. Cute, about the " celery " ! I was made to eat everything on my

plate and would sometimes (well, okay OFTEN) sit at the table lonnnng after

everybody else had arisen--because I just couldn't bring myself to eat

squishy, gray-green, English peas. Sometimes I would gag when forced to put

them into my mouth <shudders thinking about it> and swallow them. We

children had to eat everything. My younger brothers were more successful in

swallowing the nondesirables whole, washed down with icetea. Sometimes I

could do that, sometimes I couldn't. And I wasn't very subtle about it

either.

To this day, I can't abide canned green peas. I do like frozen ones,

howsomever, as long as they too are not cooked to death.

I also cannot stand beets in any arrangement.

But! I loathed summer squash as a child, and now love it. I also hated

greens (collards, turnip, & mustard greens) and love them now; their smell

while cooking is a sort of culinary perfume to my nose. :>)

I made a green soup the other day when I was very ill with a bad cold and it

was sooooo good! And I am convinced it helped me get well.

Take one pkg. frozen turnip greens with diced turnips, one pkg. mixed

broccoli and cauliflower florets, and 1 pkg. frozen corn--and put them in a

pot. Pour boiling water, just enough to cover, over all. Cook on medium high

until they just begin to boil, and then lower the heat to medium. Cook until

just tender. Season with soybutter and some salt if desired. (I did, and

yummy! yummy! it was) Serve. Makes about 4-6 servings, maybe a little more.

My hubby and I ate it all up within ONE day, so can't quite be sure about

the number of servings! Ha ha. You could also add a jar of red peppers,

drained, for a festive, Christmassy look.

Trying to think of other vegetables I really dislike. I don't know if

rhubarb counts as a vegetable. It's more like a fruit, I suppose; used as

" pieplant " up North. Boy, that stuff is sooooo sour! I can't stand it

either. It's kind of like beets, if I think about it. <g> Red and slimy.

OOOOH! But beets are sweet.

There are people that actually eat canned peas? OMGoddess, we must capture them

and retrain them. Canned asparagus smells so badly.

Pling! yet another hated vegetable I had forgotten about. Canned asparagus!

smells like something rotten!

Yes, I'm afraid there are people who eat canned peas. Cheerfully and with

enjoyment. UGH!

are you kidding??!!

OMG my 8 year old daughter and me, we LOVE canned peas, I sauté them in a pan

with a little olive oil, garlic powder, and sea salt and pepper.

She even takes them to school in her thermos and puts up with other kids'

" ewwww's " cause she likes them that much, LOL.

And canned asparagus, um, sauté that with 2 cloves of chopped garlic, and a

small onion coarsely chopped. sauté the onion and garlic a bit first, then add

the asparagus (drained) and sauté a few minutes, it's a yummy treat! and it's

way nutritious too!

Blessings,

Chanda

<wrinkles nose> Well, tell you what, Chanda: you and your little precious

are MORE than welcome to my (socalled) share of canned asparagus and green

peas. So eat 'em with impunity! LOL
