love to toss sliced raw shrooms into my green salads

me, that could explain why i am such a nutcase! *lol*

Most of my lunches consist of raw vegetables.

Especially broccoli and mushrooms dipped into hummus.

I have to see a little more information on the cancer linked to

mushrooms. A can of diet Coke is probably more dangerous.

Well, I'd certainly agree that Diet Coke IS dangerous. Sorry I can't

remember the source of my info. Maybe I'll do a little Google on it.

I wouldn't drink anything with aspartame or Splenda in it literally " to save

my life " . As in, that's why I wouldn't drink (or ingest) it. In order to

save my life.

Bron

Funny, but eating raw broccoli gives me stomach cramps.

Okay, Melissa was right! Check out this article at Dr. Weil's site:

http://www.drweil.com/u/QA/QA357082/

He says that raw mushrooms do have carcinogenic properties, and also that

veg's who eat a lot of raw foods have less dense bones.

Thanks, Melissa for the pointer there. :>)

I don't know what research Dr. Weil uses, but I read in the recent

Vegetarian Times that a recent study showed that raw foodists don't

have less bone density. So, I suppose it's which study you want to

read and believe in and how up to date that research really is.

I also read on a site (I think it's from a link you sent, Bron) that

raw mushrooms can absorb a lot of things and that they have a higher

tendency to have pesticides on/in them. I haven't checked out Dr.

Weil's claims, but is he talking about all mushrooms having

carcinogenic properties? I guess I'm still pretty skeptical.

I was reading the grocery store mushroom descriptions in the produce

section this morning. Many of them offered preparation suggestions,

including tossing raw in salads. Some didn't mention this at all.

However, the shiitake description specifically said " do not eat raw. "
