Guest guest
My finicky daughter believes wholeheartedly that vegetarian is the way to go. In fact she's working towards being vegan! She's given up milk (after a drinking a gallon a week!) She's normally very quiet & introverted (unless you put broccoli on her dinner plate). She's working on the school paper this semester - and for her last article has chosen veganism as her topic. A rather bold step - we do live in dairy country after all. Every article Meg references, the teacher declares an opinion, not fact. But she is moving forward and I'm very proud of her for standing up for what she believes in. Now if she'd just try the lentil loaf..... Cyndy " Obedient women are never remembered in history. "
Guest guest
For a scientific review of the evidence in favor of a vegan lifestyle, she might check out the relatively new book called The China Study by T. Collin Campbell, PhD. It found, for example, a correlation (though not causation?) between dairy consumption and diseases like prostate cancer. I'm still vegetarian (been saying that for years now) because I like my fermented foods, including dairy cultures. It's frustrating because I believe the probiotics in foodstuffs such as kefir and yogurt to be good for you, yet know of these studies on dairy. It's a balancing act that, so far, the little bacteria are winning. -Erin p.s. - Just have to correct my spelling in the brussels sprouts thread; I wrote " peal. " It should have, of course, been " peel. " The former means to " sound loudly.
