Guest guest
You know I used to assume everyone in here had a Trader Joes or a Whole Foods witnin a mile radius of their home so it was very different for me when I would post a recipe and state, you can pick your ingredient it up at Whole Foods, and the member would respond with, there is no Wholes Foods or there was one a few hours away. We are fortunate to have these places by us and I certainly hope the past market strike did some good as far as making people aware here in Calif of these two stores, and with thr profits they will spring up across the nation so everyone will have one in their area. My last foray was to Florida, and the nearest Trader Joes, which is the closest they have to decent groceries, was too far away. Big groceries have ok organics, but when you want fresh burdock, or anything *weird* like that, good luck! LOL. Lynn in CA Photos Ring in the New Year with Photo Calendars. Guest guest
The nearest Whole Foods is Atlanta, and I'm not quiiiiite ready to have to endure the horrendous traffic to go there just yet. But sometime in the early spring, dh and I will brave Atlanta for the farmer's market and Whole Foods. Still, I am faintly hopeful that perhaps one day in the not-too-distant future there will be a Whole Foods here in Augusta. There's a Fresh Market and that's good, but hardly anything is organic there really. Up the road a piece in Lexington, SC, is a nifty sounding natural foods store called " 14 Carrot " . We have yet to get there either. Maybe someday fairly soon! Guest guest
Bron, Ask your local grocer to order organic foods. Mine do and you will see that the cost is slightly higher than the other but well worth it. Colorado has several organic farms including an organic fed beef ranch. I would never dream of eating one of those beautiful creatures but for those who do...My daughter bought organic beef for the children when they were small. Another thing if you are fortunate to have garden space..Grow your own, dry or can your crops and you will have healthy food all winter. I am now living in the city and craving a garden plot. May look into a community garden next season. Smiles and hugs coming your way. Guest guest
Hi Donna: I am very lucky where I am in Connecticut as I have a Whole foods, Trader Joes, and Wild Oats fairly close. I do have to drive to them but they are not more then maybe 20 minutes away of Course in different directions. Gayle
Guest guest
Deanna, Our Kroger's and Publix's do have organic foods, but not a great selection of them. At least, not until reallly recently. Last night dh and I went to Kroger's for a sale on Soy Chips (2 for 3.00, whoa!) and noticed that the organic produce section is growing --pardon the pun--by leaps and bounds nowadays. GREAT NEWS, huh? Oh, I know the cost is higher moneywise, but what price is cancer, right? Sorry to be the bubble buster here--but from what I've read about " organic meat/dairy farms " even on them the animals are not treated well, and eventually are sent to the slaughterhouse where, like their non-organic compatriots, their deaths are horrific. :>( The animals may be fed " organically/with organic feed " but they are still shut up in crowded pens, not let out into the sunshine hardly at all, if ever, etc. ) We live in an apartment and don't have the gardening space, but I tell you what, I've been researching on Community Farms, and there are TWO! right within our area. One of them is organic and you can buy a bushel of organic vegies, fruits and herbs from there every week from May thru October. Yippee, can't wait! Thanks for the ideas. :>) And it's great you're looking into a community garden! Bron On 1/5/06, genny_y2k <genny_y2k wrote: > > Bron, > Ask your local grocer to order organic foods.
