Guest guest
Why don't you at least give up the fish and join us in being vegetarian, you already gave up the dairy and meat and if you give up the eggs too then you will be vegan. With all the recipes in the files I doubt you would miss fish at all. We have tofuna and mock crab cakes recipes in the files. Just the ocean pollution is enough to get you thinking hard about it. Guest guest
True. It's missing out on spicy tuna rolls that makes me hesitate, admittedly. I've been going without to see if I can, however. Guest guest
Actually one shouldn't eat a large portion of tuna due to it potentially having some of the highest mercury count. Here is an excerpt I found on line: The fish that women of childbearing age (including pregnant women) and children should avoid consist of shark, king mackerel, swordfish, tilefish and certain locally caught fish. It is recommended that tuna steaks be consumed infrequently—no more than once a month. Additionally, if tuna steak is consumed, then no other fish should be consumed in that week. Canned tuna has recently been scrutinized and the prudent recommendation is that 12 oz per week of the chunk light tuna is a reasonable amount to eat. The chunk light is better than the albacore tuna, because mercury levels tend to be lower. There has also been increased awareness in the past months of tuna steaks, which may contain larger amounts of mercury due to the size of these fish. <end snip> What is it of the spicy tuna rolls that you love so much? Is it the sauce, or the actual fish? Do you think you could create your own veggie version? Is this the only fish that you consume? Hey every step you take is a step in the right direction, so go the speed you need to. That's great that you're already trying! Denise , Kyrene Ariadne <kyrene@g...> wrote: > > True. Is it the sauce, or the actual fish? Do you think you could create your own veggie version? Is this the only fish that you consume? All of the above. I also consume lox, and baked white fish. These things are pretty infrequent, although I get baked salmon on occasion, or make myself a tuna fish sandwich. I think on average, I maybe eat one fish product a week, if that. >Hey every step you take is a step in the right direction, so go the > speed you need to. That's great that you're already trying! Yup! And when presented with vegan options over other choices containing fish, I've been choosing the vegan. I figure that I should get used to it in case my body decides to reject all animal protein entirely. -- AIM: Kyrene Ariadne : kyreneariadne * Dadoukhoi http://www.dadoukhoi.org/ * Temenos Theon: http://kyrene.4t.com * Boston Mysticism Boston_Mystic * NewEngland Hellenists: NewEngland_Hellenists Beloved Pan, and all ye other gods who haunt this place, make me beautiful within, and grant that what-ever happens outside of me will help my soul to grow. Guest guest
" go the speed you need to " is excellent advise. Over 40 yrs. ago I started out by eating only fish and turkey. Then slowly as I became more aware I chose to eliminate all flesh from my diet. It is an easy healthy process. Now Vegan is another matter because like I said I would like to be completely Vegan but I still wear silk, wool, and some leather sandals. The leather sandals are starting to concern me but I easily gave up fur of all kinds years ago. I seldom consume eggs or cheese and no milk. I'll tell you I have cried seeing the cattle loaded into the semi's from the grass fields and driven away the slaughter yards..I can only imagine the trauma they experience. Guest guest
Donna posted a good " tuna salad " recipe, Kyrene, just the other day that you can try. I also have a couple good ones that I can post, if you'd like. You don't have to go without your taste that you like, just the dangerous actual meat/fish. :>) I believe I have also seen a recipe or two for ...what are those things called? My daughter loves them. Oh, yeah, sushi rolls. Completely vegan. My daughter switched over to them at my request way back last summer, after I shared with her the dangers of eating fish of any kind. Now she prefers the vegan sushi over the originals! Who knows, you might too! Embark on an adventure with us. :>) Bron On 1/12/06, Kyrene Ariadne <kyrene wrote: > > True. Guest guest
Yeah, I can't honestly picture myself giving up wool, silk, or leather--I own too much of the above. But diet-wise, I can picture it. I think the hardest would be the eggs; I'm having a difficult enough time determining what has dairy in it and what doesn't! Guest guest
Yeah I had the " vegetarian gourmet " sushi meal today for lunch. Good stuff! Just wish that it had more of the sushi and less of the inari.
