Guest guest
From what I have managed to browse through, I like! I am reading vegan posts, vegetarian posts and posts of those who still consume fish. Some wear leather..some do not..some are debating.. what I find refreshing is the attitude of " we are all ok " and moving at different speeds to where " we " want to be and none have come across as " holier than thou " so to speak. This I like!! At this point in my husband's and my journey, we have managed to give up the dairy. Today I have made some more Soymilk using the blender and pot method. Not too difficult at all. Eggs will be next. I think the most difficult in the purest vegan since is giving up honey. Have to think about that one. Thanks for all the interesting posts and now I think I will relax and browse some more. Ps..Love the pics. D'vorah

Yes, and I want to thank those who sent me lots of good recipes and " food for thought " , so to speak--no pun intended. ;-) > At this point in my husband's and my journey, we have managed to give > up the dairy. I had no choice in my case, sadly--but it is still hard. I go out, and see delicious chocolate desserts that I can no longer eat. But my body is happier, and I've discovered Nana's double chocolate chip cookies, no egg, no dairy. >Eggs will be next. Any tips on avoiding them and dairy are appreciated. I eat out with my coworkers every Fri, and most are carnivores, and the vegetarians all eat eggs and dairy. I think the > most difficult in the purest vegan since is giving up honey. I most likely never will, and will stick to eating organic like I do with everything else. But the rest I can see doing.
Guest guest
I guess eating kosher, not mixing meat and dairy, and being the only veggies in the family has given us practice, but yes, I agree. It is difficult outside of the home to find places to eat. Here in Arkansas, I think we are a wee bit behind. I do enjoy and appreciate Wild oats! We also avoid yeast and fermented grain ingredients. We have seen an improvement with my BH epilepsy and his diabetes II is now none existant. Offered to anyone who wonders some times...Just a note....This is a testimony for veganism..didn't think it matter that much at times..while doing chemo, I was given steroids for nausea which made me gain 3-7 lbs a week!! Nothing I did helped. Exercise, no exercise, no fat, fat, no sugar, sugar. Then I begin to delete animal products. Guess what? I lost instead of gained. Apparently the animal product ingredients and the steroids combo caused the problem. My doc has said it will take about 6 months to get back to normal, but each day brings me to a better feeling. He keeps wondering why his diebetes is still hard to control and why he can't lose any weight--he does the low carb thing and eats WAY too much animal protein, IMHO. But I doubt he'll listen to me. > Offered to anyone who wonders some times...Just a note....This is a > testimony for veganism..didn't think it matter that much at > times..while doing chemo, I was given steroids for nausea which made > me gain 3-7 lbs a week!! Animal protein is fattening, and I think that IMHO, too large portions and fast food are what contribute to America's waistline. I've been on this diet for not even a month, and I've lost about 3 pounds or so. I can't lose more than 7 additional pounds or I'll be coming to everyone here and asking " So, how do I gain weight? " lol
Guest guest
We began to exclude red/white meats and just include fish, dairy and eggs. There was some improvement. Next he and I moved toward yeast free. That is when we found out that the IBS was not caused by his meds, but the fact he is allergic to yeast! With vegan ( some raw) I do not see any thing heading our way but VERY GOOD. Our move toward this direction wasn't even for health reasons. We never expected to see the amazing results. At least not to this extent. Everyone has to be convinced in their own hearts with the knowledge they have. D'vorah , Kyrene Ariadne <kyrene@g...> wrote: > > On 1/12/06, Dvorah L. Guest guest
I also have IBS, and it was *GREATLY* improved when I removed dairy, which turned out to be the main culprit. Sadly, meat products affect me similarly and poultry is iffy. I had a reaction yesterday, and am attempting to pinpoint it. I suspect that Starbucks didn't change the containers or something when they made my soy mocha. I'll have to be more careful next time. Guest guest
I think some of these eating/drinking places are going to have to be more careful. Containers can be marked and separated. It is not that difficult once you get into the habit of doing. It becomes second nature. Awareness....look how long it took for certain ingredients and grams of whatever to be added to packages. Guest guest
D'vorah, I too have Type II diabetes. I have been on insulin and another oral med since nearly two years ago, and insulin almost from the beginning. As a result of going vegetarian and then vegan (and now going back and forth between the two), I have lost two sizes...am still losing...<VBG>...and my blood sugars are for the first time EVER, going to normal levels. AND I have to take less and less insulin (rejoicing over THAT, because I HATE injecting myself...it hurts...and the less insulin that's in that syringe, the quicker the injection is over!). My husband does not get insurance on his new job until March, but we are really seeing a difference in my health (as well as his; apparently veg of both types greatly helps stabilize ADHD, which he has) and hope to present extremely improved results to the new doctor when that time arrives. I also have always had problems with respiratory infections and wheezing breathing. These have virtually disappeared. I just love helping myself, helping animals, helping the planet all in one fell swoop. <G> Glad to hear about your health success stories! Guest guest
Hi D'vorah: That is wonderful that eating vegetarian and vegan has helped. Also great to hear that each day you feel better.
