Guest guest
quite true, Deanna..but we do not have the teeth of a carnivore meant for tearing into things.. which is, I believe, what Joseph was saying. I also do not think we have the intestines meant to digest meat.. My 10 year old son, who loves anatomy, has been bringing up things like this since he first opened an anatomy book at the age of 3. =) jenni On Jan 20, 2006, at 10:21 PM, genny_y2k wrote: > Joseph, > I think we do have canines..between the incisors and the bi-cuspids. > Pretty sure..LOL > Deanna > , " rollinmonkeyman " > <rollinmonkeyman> wrote: > > > > We don't have canine teeth or fangs so I think the cats and dogs > > shouldn't be vegetarian but it's just my opinion. Guest guest
-Jenni, Your son is correct..Years ago I too read that humans have the same very long intestinal tract of herbivores. The biggest strongest and most intelligent animals in our world are herbivores and yes have this same long intestinal tract. Many of them eat only grasses and tree leaves. Compared to short intestines of a carnivore that is designed to absorb nutrients and remove hair, bones etc. that are not digestable quickly through the system before they can do damage or absorb toxins. -- In , Jenni Billings <jenni@b...> wrote: > > quite true, Deanna..but we do not have the teeth of a carnivore meant > for tearing into things.. which is, I believe, what Joseph was saying. > > I also do not think we have the intestines meant to digest meat.. > My 10 year old son, who loves anatomy, has been bringing up things > like this since he first opened an anatomy book at the age of 3. > > =) > jenni > > On Jan 20, 2006, at 10:21 PM, genny_y2k wrote: > > Joseph, > > I think we do have canines..between the incisors and the bi- cuspids. > > Pretty sure..LOL > > Deanna > > , " rollinmonkeyman " > > <rollinmonkeyman> wrote: > > > > > > We don't have canine teeth or fangs so I think the cats and dogs > > > shouldn't be vegetarian but it's just my opinion. Guest guest
Here's a fun page of different animal intelligence rankings: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=225873 Cats are in at least one of those lists and I think (I won't swear to this) that most people are pretty certain that cats must have meat to survive. I have read but never tested that dogs can survive without meat. We have two dogs and they get some meat products. My wife is an omnivore also.
