Guest guest
Studies have shown that pretty much all breast milk contains some toxins, but vegan women's breast milk contains the least since we eat lower on the food chain. This woman was vegetarian, but not vegan, right? The toxins that we have built up over our lives are stored in our body fat & released when we burn the fat to make milk. But, formula also contains toxins since much of it is made from cow's milk and the cows are injected with antibiotics and BGH. Breast milk is still better for babies. Guest guest
UGHHHH, I hate that sort of thing. It implies that the formula does NOT have the crap in it.... no thanks, bf is still infinitely better. Sandra
Guest guest
Sad but true our modern plastic world is a chemical soup. That being said human milk is still the absolute best thing for human babies. If this educated and healthy woman's milk has toxins just think of how much scary stuff the heavily processed, artificial formulas have in them. Guest guest
Toxins in breast milk has more to do with whether the food is organic/pesticide free, the meds you take, health of your water source, etc.... It has to do with everything you put into your body. Hell! Stuff is absorbed through the skin too. It's not strictly a veggie/meat eater issue. check out www.foodrevolution.org I think Robbins addresses this in the Ask John section. Also, I've never been to a La Leche League meeting that did not recommend eating organic/pesticide free foods for this exact reason...and I've been to a lot of meetings... Guest guest
Toxins in breast milk is definitely not a veggie meat issue. It is an environmental issue. You shouldn't be in a dry cleaner or pumping gas if you are breast feeding. There have been several studies on this. The fumes from pumping leak into breast milk. Here are some links about it and other common chemicals that are found outside of foods that leak into breast milk http://www.child.com/pregnancy_baby/babys_first_year/breast_milk.jsp?page=2 http://www.nrdc.org/breastmilk/chem12.asp http://www.drgreene.com/21_876.html Peace Joann --- Lucy Watkins <lucywatkins wrote: > Toxins in breast milk has more to do with whether > the food is organic/pesticide free, the meds you > take, health of your water source, etc.... Guest guest
I will hit 5 years of continuous nursing in Nov, and will be ttc again as soon as my body recovers from my miscarriage, so more likely it'll end up being closer to 8 or 10 by the time I'm done having kids (or a lot longer if I can talk dh into the number of kids *I* want! LOL!) When do you hit 5? Sandra, wondering what sort of gift I've earned for 5 consecutive years of lactating > Lucy ~veteran nurser of nearly 5 years STRAIGHT (and still going strong)
Guest guest
August 19 is my 5th anniversary of nursing!! Joy didn't even stop while I was pregnant with Shirlee! One of the prizes I've gotten is watching my girls play family. Whoever is playing the baby calls out " nursie nursie " . The *mommy* lifts her shirt and says " ok just remember not to bite. " Baby says, " okay nursie nursie " and begins nursing. It's too cute. Guest guest
> Sandra, wondering what sort of gift I've earned for 5 consecutive years of lactating Hmmm, -Really healthy, content kids? -Lots of time snuggling your kids you might not have spend otherwise? -The ability to eat whatever you want without gaining an ounce <g>? And probably too many other good things I haven't mentioned! Karen (who's been nursing for 5 1/2 consecutive years herself)

Eva is down to once a week, thank goodness... > One of the prizes I've gotten is watching my girls play family. LOL!!! yes, my daughter keeps trying to get my son to latch on, with all the appropriate reminders. He plays along, but sometimes she gets mad that he's not REALLY nursing! LOL!!! And she'll offer to nurse him to sleep for me... Sandra

My dd nurses her doll and stuffed animals. I recently bought her a doll sling. If we are somewhere where a baby is crying, she will say " baby needs boo boos mom. Guest guest
> Sandra, wondering what sort of gift I've earned for 5 consecutive years of lactating > Dunno - nobody seemed to think I should get anything when I hit 7 years in March ... with at least another 3 years to go, G-d willing. But then, I have three lovely, snuggly little people, so I guess that is gift enough! BTW, about the gas pumping thing. Is it a serious suggestion that the three or four minutes I spend pumping gas is going to cause a perceptible level of toxins in my breastmilk, right through my clothes, more than the baby is breathing by being in the vehicle? I find that extremely difficult to believe! Be well, Hadass in Winnipeg, Ima to Rafi (7 y/o, weaned on his fourth birthday), Ari (almost 4 and we are working on weaning) and Shira, 6.5 months and no weaning in sight.
