Guest guest
It's frustrating. I've been buying vegan shoes at payless shoes, but if those are made with cheap, inhumane working conditions, perhaps it's just as evil. I don't know. The company I work for sells leather shoes (I don't promote them, though if people see them in my catalogue I will sell them) and I can't help but wondering if getting those for my kids would be better than getting the shoes I've BEEN getting. Guest guest
It gets even more confusing if you start considering the environmental impact of " man-made " material shoes versus leather processing. Both produce lots of volatile compound and polution, the synthetics are mostly utterly non-degradeable, but only the leather ones are so directly linked with death. Guest guest
Speaking of shoes, does anyone know where I can find vegan ballet slippers for a 4-year-old? I've found only one place on the Web. The company is in Australia and the slippers are something like $60, plus shipping. I have the same concerns about Payless Shoes. Sometimes I really envy people who don't think about these things. :-) Karen - Sandra Mort Wednesday, June 04, 2003 9:12 AM Vegan versus human rights It's frustrating. " Just acknowledging the difficult position we're in in this society. We just have to do the best we can, since I can't afford the fairly-made vegan shoes available. ::::::::::sigh:::::::::: ~Doh, hoping someday we don't have to make these ridiculous choices --------- " There is *never* a good reason not to be as loving as you can possibly be. Guest guest
I know what you mean. About the shoes that is, so we don't advocate killing innocent animals but they are killed (by the millions) and leather is biodegradable. The shoes at places like Pay Less are 100% manufactured(womanufactured?) but under what conditions? By children even? So often there are no easy answers.
