Katie, We use vinegar in the rinse cycle. My husband has ultra stinky clothes from work. I put the vinegar in the place where the fabric softener would go. That is inside the machine on the side or on our machine top of the agitator. It is designed to release in the rinse cycle. Also a scoop of baking soda helps. Guest guest
You might try washing smaller loads and/or adding vinegar to the rinse cycle. (I used to add a Downy ball filled with vinegar to my loads of very stinky cloth diapers and it worked really well.) We just got a front-loading washing machine last week -- and I am amazed by the difference in the smell of our laundry! good luck, Angela Katie Mangan <kmangan wrote: Does anyone have any secrets for getting their stinky laundry unstinky? You can try adding a cup of ammonia along with the detergent. That really helps get out stains, and should help with odd smells too. Personally, I've never gotten good results with Seventh Generation. We have gotten good results with Citra-[something] (I'm blanking on the name at the moment), though. It's made by the same people who make the " natural " dish detergent Citra-Dish. The problem may be with your washing machine rather than your detergent, though. If the machine has mold or mildew colonies growing in it, that could end up making the clothes smell. If that's the case, I would try running through an empty cycle with bleach added to the hot water. ---- Patricia Bullington-McGuire <patricia The brilliant Cerebron, attacking the problem analytically, discovered three distinct kinds of dragon: the mythical, the chimerical, and the purely hypothetical. Guest guest
OH OH I can help with this one! Go to W*lMart and go to the Hunting Fishing supply section (I know, I know, but just bear with me!) There you will find something called Sports Wash. It is in a smallish bottle and it's liquid. It is designed to remove all scent of humans from clothes for hunters. It is also sold under the name " Sensi-Clean " in some natural stores/web sites. They are the exact same thing, by the same company, but Sports Wash from W*lMart is much cheaper than Sensi-Clean for the most part. It is great on diapers, too. Just use as you use any laundry detergent. HTH! Guest guest
you may have some detergent residue. i suggest washing them once with no detergent and a few droppers of lavendar oil fresh air will also work wonders, if you're lucky enough to have some outdoor space to use Katie Mangan <kmangan wrote: Does anyone have any secrets for getting their stinky laundry unstinky? Lately my workout wear is > still stinky. 1) Baking soda in the wash cycle 2) White vinegar in the rinse cycle 3) Oxiclean (does anyone know specific info on this product, eco-wise?) 4) Many clothing fibers tend to get stinky and stay that way, so there may not be a solution Liz
Guest guest
As a proud cloth diapering mother I have picked up a few tricks along the way for stinks stains and other scary things. During the regualr wash use Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda. It will also clean just about anything else. Do a second rinse on those stinkers and add white vinegar. Either one of those alone may do the trick but together they kick butt. Good luck. Some ideas: Use Bac-Out (found at www.ecobaby.com) in the laundry. Dry in the sun. Put 1 C vinegar (white works well) in with the rinse cycle. Add tea tree oil (several drops) to the rinse cycle. Use a lavendar soak before washing. Hope that helps. ~Doh ------- Loyalty to the country, always. Loyalty to the government, when deserved. ~Mark Twain.
