Guest guest
I used to feed my dog dried tvp reconstituted with water and something for flavor, like soy sauce. Be kind. Be of good cheer. Dick
Guest guest
No, sorry. I've been looking for the same. When I run out of dog food, I'll give the dogs oatmeal and cereal. Potatoes and corn too. Everytime I do that I think that I should make my own, but if they waited for that the poor things would go hungry. Guest guest
No, afraid not. I know it can be done, but never looked into exclusivlely vegetarian homemade. My male did well on veggie kibble, but my female dog seems to get really sick any time we don't feed her on a BARF diet. So now we BARF and boy is it gross Sandra Does anyone make their own veggie dog food? I've been looking into veg commercial food and its super expensive. Does anyone have any tried and true ideas? Thanks Katie
Guest guest
Give Your Dog a Bone has some information on making homemade dog food with minimal or no meat, but not vegan. If that helps... Sandra

FYI, Dogs and cats have a difficult time digesting grains. They do better on fruits and veggies. Pref. raw, unless a hard squash. Also, nightshades are hard on their systems. Since their digestive system is short. They are designed to eat meat. Some people may dissagree with this, but we have been feeding raw food diet and it makes a huge difference. The resource I use is a book by Pat McKay called: " Reigning Cats and Dogs " . Pat is a vegan. She has studied allopathic treatments as well as holistic animal nutrition. Very easy to follow food plans for animal companions. We got a second hand food processor to use for the animal food. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Hello--I'm new to the group (and a new parent), but wanted to comment on the veg dog food issue. I work for an animal rights organization (Animal Protection Institute) that has done extensive research into " pet " foods. On our website we have recipes for homemade dog and cat food, including veg recipes. The recipes are at: http://www.api4animals.org/doc.asp?ID=508 We recommend that you consult with a vet experienced in animal nutrition, as dogs' and cats' dietary needs are rather complex. Just feeding TVP or oatmeal isn't getting them what they need! We also have a report on commerical pet foods that people may be interested in reading: http://www.api4animals.org/doc.asp?ID=79 Hope these are useful. Guest guest
Hi Karen, Congratulations on motherhood! Just want to clarify that my dogs diet does not consist of oatmeal. Since you put it with an exclamation, I just wanted to let you know that. As a busy mother of two beautiful little people and two beautiful big dogs, sometimes, we all need to be flexible. My dogs are 3 and 4 yrs old and I've had each since they were about 5 months old from the SPCA. Please don't think that I would ever neglect any person or animal. If they are hungry in the morning and Momma didn't make it to the store after work one time, then hey this will tide you over. Maybe that's not the best thing in the world, but I'm always doing what I think is best for all of us. Thanks for the link and the info. Kind regards, Janeen Karen Hirsch <karen_hirsch wrote: Hello--I'm new to the group (and a new parent), but wanted to comment on the veg dog food issue.
