Veg lunchbox ideas

Thought you might like to read this new article:

" What are easy lunch recipes for a 6-year-old and 10-year-old for

school? I pack their lunch, and they do not have a microwave to warm

up their food; this makes their lunch meal unpleasant. They are

tired of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Please give some advice

on alternatives… "

work for myself. I ate a lot pb & j as a vegetarian kid. In today's

world I don't think its necessary.. LiteLife, Yves, Tofurkey all make

vegetarian deli slices.. so my child and I can have vegan versions of

bologna, turkey, ham, salami, etc. Enough variety to have a different

type of sandwich everyday of the week. (though I notice that they

don't last very long so unless you have a couple of children you and

your child might be eating the same type sandwich pretty often just so

they don't go bad before the package is finished).

If you take them out of the package and put them in Tupperware,

they'll keep quite a long time in the back of the fridge. Otherwise,

you could freeze, say, half a package at a time.

Where did you find an edible soy cheese?

Be well, Hadass.

Hi!

I'm new to the group, and this topic is one of the reasons I sought

out this group. My daughter started kindergarten this year, and

keeping lunch interesting and varied was a concern. Those are all

good suggestions, my daughter's favs so far are, Hummus with pita and

veggies, wheatberry salad (wheatberries, beans, tomatoes, celery,

peppitas, and homemade dressing), and of course the usual PB & J. We

have tried the vegetarian lunch kits, the Hain Co makes them. They

used to be vegan, but now the new version uses dairy products. If

you are a Lacto-vegetarian I would recommend them on occasion if you

can find them, although the pizza and taco versions can be a bit

messy for the younger kids. My daughter likes the baloney lunch, it

comes with a two packs of 3 crackers, a pack of 6 cracker sized

baloneys (if you get the veg baloney it's the same thing) an cheese

stick, a juice box, and two " oreo " style cookies. It's all

preservative free, I only wish it was all organic, but it's a nice

treat to get every once and a while. Other than that, she has

requested a veggie dog in her lunch so we may be purchasing a good

quality thermos and see how that goes. I'd appreciate any other

ideas!

My four-year-old son Sam, the most unethusiastic of eaters, loves edamame beans.

I buy them frozen in bags (you can get them shelled or unshelled but I prefer

the shelled) and just heat up a handful and put them in his lunchbox.

Sam also will sometimes eat a new soy pudding from a company called Zen Soy. He

likes the chocolate; I've tasted the vanilla and think it's really good as well.
