Guest guest
We've had a very friendly cat come to our yard since late last summer. We were wondering if it was male or female. Well today I got the answer. When Dd and I were heading out the front door for a walk this am there she was mounted by a another cat. Not only is it a female but obviously not spayed. I don't get it, is there anyone in the FREE world who hasn't heard about the pet over population problem we have. Doesn't her " owner " care that she will have kittens that are more than likely headed for a death sentence? It can't be the cost because most communities have low/no/cost spay and neuter programs. It's just laziness!! It is irresponsibility! Maybe they think she'll have her kittens somewhere else and it won't be their problem. I don't know what goes through a reasonable person's head when they get a cat and just let it run the neighborhood unfixed. Three years go a pg female was at our back door. (Someone else being lazy) When her kittens were born we couldn't pay people to take them. So we ended up keeping 3 kittens and the mom. (All our cats have been hard luck cases) The shelter said they were over run with kittens, the rescues were at capacity. What does a compassionate person do? I should have grabbed her up last summer and got her fixed myself. I am so tired up cleaning up other peoples messes!!!!!!! ~*~*~Mitzi ~~To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world~~ For PCO info... http://www.health-alliance.com/hospitals/Jewish/glueck/polycyst.htm
Guest guest
Hear hear. My neighbor/friend is trying hard to convince her husband that when they get a dog this summer it should be rescued. He wants a purebred. She says purebred rescue he says from a breeder, he wants to know what he's getting. Which will probably be a big old case of hip diplasia since his ideal dog is a purebred. When they were here the other day he went up to our (100% nuetered) cat and the normally friendly cat ran away. Our neighbor said " what's up with him I thought he liked me? " I said " he found out you don't want to save a shelter dog from death " . I said it with a grin but I think he got my point. Thanks you for giving stray animals a good home. Guest guest
I know your feelings with this. Last winter, in the middle of snow and coyotes, a dog had puppies on my lawn. I got her in my garage (which had a heater) with her puppies. I waited for her to let me get near her and her babies, and took them to a shelter. In the mean time, I walked the neighborhood asking if this poor little mama belonged to anyone. No one claimed her. I felt so bad for her. My problem with cats is why would anyone have them outside as they are. We have, at other houses, built a run of sorts so our cat can enjoy some fresh air. It was all inclosed, and she could go in and out as she wished through a cat door. Even w/o it here, she seems perfectly happy sitting by a cracked window on her window bed. I also don't see any reason for people to not get animals s/n. I thought the breeder with my lab had a good idea, and wish more breeders would do this type of thing. They gave us a contract saying we would get the dog fixed by the time they were 10 months, through a certain vet, and gave us a ticket for so much off. If they were not notified of the s/n, they would the retain the animal, no refunds. It was a contract, and legal. I know cats are harder to do that with, but if people would get their heads back out in the sunshine, we could get control of animal populations. Guest guest
Stephanie, Around here, you can adopt purebreds from the AS all the time. My mom found a purebred Golden Retriever, that was a young puppy, I think 4 months. That makes me sick, but if you live any where near a military base, of any kind, chances are there are many purebred dogs in the shelters. Might be worth a looksie, even if you don't live near a base. A lot of people get big dogs, and just don't realize what they are in for, and the dogs end up in a shelter. Or move, or get sick, and a lot of times, the shelter, in those cases, will have an idea whether they are purebred or not. It would still be a rescue, and possibly both parties will come out smiling.
