I use the Gimme Lean or Boca " ground beef " and just

squish them into balls and saute--works pretty well

for me. Not sure what veggie crumbles you are using.

You could add some tomato paste, maybe? Also, you can

buy Nate's " Meatballs " in the frozen food section, if

you don't mind paying more.

I believe it's Morningstar Farms that is made by Kellogg's and contains GMO's. I

have seen both GMO and non-GMO products from Boca. Their parent company is

Kraft.

Hi, Tara--

Good points, but...

Regarding Boca, our co-op has pretty strict screens

about GMOs and are absolutely fanatical about

hydrogenated oils (I've been in a protracted battle

with them to carry Tofutti " cream cheese, " but that's

another story) and tehy carry Boca products.

Hydrogenated oils aren't on the current Boca ingedient

list. That list doesn't mention non-GMO soy, so it

either is GMO or can't be claimed as GE-Free.

Regarding Kellogg's ownership, it's actually worse

than you think! Boca is owned by Philip Morris/Kraft

(it's MOrningstar that's owned by Kellogg's). Most of

the national organic brands are now owned by big

corporations. This incudes Yves which is owned by the

Hain/Celestial group, which is partially owned by ...

Heinz!

An interesting chart of corporate ownership of organic

labels is at

http://www.certifiedorganic.bc.ca/rcbtoa/services/corporate-ownership.html

and is well worth checking out! On the one hand, it's

great that organics are becoming more popular. On the

other hand, the more popular they are, the more likely

they are to be bought out.

thank you for correcting me.

i do know boca used to have hydrogenated oils as i got into a big fight with my

grandmother when i read the label (she figured * a little bit can't hurt the

baby*) but this was a while back so they must have taken them out... good for

them :)

i can never figure out who owns who anymore so thank you for that link, i knew

yves was recently bought by a big company as well sigh.....
