Guest guest
Hello! My 4 year old daughter just started dance class. I tried to find her dance slippers/shoes and all of them have leather soles. Does anyone know of somewhere to get cruelty free dance shoes for kids? Thanks! Lynne S.
Guest guest
Lynne, PETA lists many sources of vegan dance shoes. Go to http://www.caringconsumer.com/alt4.html#Dance%20Shoes. Be aware, though, that some companies offer them by special order only, and it may take up to 8 weeks to make them. -Melissa KidBean.com - Vegan Baby Superstore http://www.kidbean.com > Message: 1 > Thu, 24 Jun 2004 11:56:47 -0500 > " Lynne Stornello " <libby63 > vegan dance shoes > > > > Hello! Guest guest
I recently posted the same question on another list! I found non- leather tap shoes for my daughters at a local dance shop -- but Payless also sells them on their website and possibly in some of their stores. I'm still looking for ballet slippers. Someone just posted on the veganparents list that Dollar Tree has some non-leather slippers that may work. There's also an australian (I think...) company that sells them on their website -- but you have to order at least 10 pairs at a time and pay quite a bit for shipping to the states. I can't remember the address -- but you could probably find it by googling " vegan ballet slippers, " or something similar, if interested. good luck, Angela
Guest guest
Lynne- I had the same problem a few years ago when my daughter took ballet. I was able to find non-leather tap shoes, but not ballet. I finally succumbed (cringe) and bought her some that have a leather sole. However, our dance class had a trade program, so that as the kids outgrew their shoes they were donated to the studio's shoe basket. Then when my daughter outgrew her smaller size, we simply traded it in the basket for one of the larger (used) sizes that made it to the basket. That way at least I only purchased one pair of cruelty-laden shoes and didn't have to repeat. Anyway, my daughter quit dancing, and I still have her last pair of Size 13 shoes (very good condition)--which I will happily send to you, or anyone else who can use them. no cost, obviously. If you think she use this size just let me know. Alissa Lynne Stornello <libby63 wrote: Hello! My 4 year old daughter just started dance class. Guest guest
I used to dance with a small company in California & always wound up compromising and buying canvas ballet shoes with split soles (they have 2 small leather spots on the soles.). I figured that it was better than lot of leather, but still not totally cruelty free. My older dd is dancing & I was totally unable to find canvas ballet slippers for kids. I, too, bought her non-leather tap shoes & leather ballet slippers. Although, the used idea is a good idea. I may do that in the fall when she goes back to class. If no one takes you up on those size 13s, Alissa, I'd be happy to pay you for shipping & the cost. Of course, the original poster should have first dibs! Guest guest
My daughter does figure skating. Most of the costumes and skates of older kids are sold at skate sales so we can buy stuff that has been worn by other children. That way the skates are being reused at least. We aren't contributing to the slaughter of any more animals. Skating is an expensive hobby with all the private lessons and competitions and such - so buying used skates helps out. Still if anybody knows where to get non-leather figure skates I'd be interested. Renee Alissa Finley <veganpeace wrote: Lynne- I had the same problem a few years ago when my daughter took ballet.
