Hi Everyone,

My name is Trish. I liked to introduce myself to the

group. My husband and I have been Veggies for 10+

years and we have a baby boy who just turned 6 months

old. I'm planning on raising him Veg as well. I've

just started him on the cereals. Reading your posts

has been helpful on how to explain not eating meat to

your children.

I'm also looking for a good party food recipe. I've

been invited to a Mommy and Baby Party and everyone is

insisting that I bring something vegeterian for them

to try. So, I'm looking for something tasty, new, and

different that will knock all these meat eaters socks

off! : )

Any suggestions? I look forward to reading future

posts and learning more about the group.

Thanks

Trish

Hi Trish,

Welcome! Did you get any responses to your recipe request? You said

vegetarian, not vegan, right, so that should make it pretty easy.

Veggie lasagne, Mexican pizza, shepherd's pie, stuffed tomatoes ... I'd

suggest you look around at a few veggie sites (type " vegetarian recipes "

into Google and you'll be overwhelmed with possibilities).

Good luck with that, and have fun with your veggie baby!

Hi Doh,

Thank you for the Welcome. This is the first time I've

joined a group via the internet and I have to admit I

was starting to feel a little shut out by the group,

as no one had acknowledged me yet.

Thanks for the recipe suggestions. I am a vegeterian

but I guess I'm looking for some Vegan recipes as I

want to create something fantastic that these people

would never normally eat or have tried before. I saw

someone post a recipe for some Mock Crab cakes, I

thought I would maybe try that and something else.

I'll continue the search on the net to see what I can

find...unless you or anyone else has some suggestions?

Doh, I see that you moved to Seattle. Welcome to the

West Coast! Sounds like you love it already. I live in

Vancouver Canada and have loved it all my life. I'm

not sure where you were before but you will find

Seattle a very Vegan/Vegeterian friendly place as is

Vancouver and Victoria.

Hi Trish,

I'm in Nova Scotia but visited Vancouver last September. I really enjoyed

my visit and had some really great meals while I was there. I live in Cape

Breton and I wish that good vegetarian food was easier to find here. I have

toyed with the idea of a veggie cafe here but " specialty " restaurants don't

seem to do too well here.

Hi Trish,

I'm also from British Columbia (near Nelson, BC) I've been waiting to

see if any more western Canadians join the list:)

We have a veggie family of 4. 2 parents & two children (3 and 1). I

keep hoping that someone from the West Kootenays will join this list and

we can start a veggie parents playgroup:)

I found it a little stressful wanting to raise a vegetarian family when

I was raised in an omniverous family (in fact my parents raise animals

to eat). I had to do a lot of research to reassure myself that my kids

health would benefit and not be compromised during the development phase

of their life. (This despite the fact that both my husband & I have

been healthy vegetarians for about 14 years.) Anyway both are very

healthy & bright and eat a way more balanced diet than most of their

peers:) My relatives are amazed by the variety of veggies they eat.

Anyway, welcome to the list:)

Melanie.

Does Winnipeg count? 8-)

Can't help with that, sorry! I'm Hadass, I live in Winnipeg with DH

David, also veggie, and born-vegetarians Rafi (8), Ari (5) and Shira

(21 months).

Oooh, that's hard, as your choice is seen as an implicit criticism of

theirs.

I'm glad for you - my vegetarian kids don't eat any veggies at all 8-(.

From me, too! Communication on this list tends to be slow because it

is very strictly moderated, and posts are only fed in once or twice a

day, and sometimes not on weekends.

Be well, Hadass.

Hi Trish,

We moved from Vancouver about a year ago down to West Palm Beach,

FL. I've been veggie my whole life and so will my daughter who is

now 13 months old. I was born on Vancouver Island, lived in Victoria

most of my life and went to university in Vancouver -- so you can

imagine the shock of the lack of veggie food/restaurants here in

Florida. What we miss most of all about Vancouver is definitely the

veggie food and restaurants... *sigh*

Hi Melanie!

Have you been enjoying the pouring rain we've been

having! Wow, what a change in the weather. Nelson is

such a beautiful area. My parents live in the Okanagan

(Oliver). We love heading out there for a visit.

It sure is reassuring to hear that many families in

this group have healthy, happy, animal loving

children! I hope to raise the same!! : )

Does anyone one know what age you can start to

introduce tofu to your baby? I've read some

conflicting information. Some say 6 months and other

say it's best to wait till after 12 months? At what

age did you try tofu?

Thanks!

Trish

I asked my doc at 6 month check up if it was ok to start tofu and he

said yes, definitely. So that's when we started it... I don't know

if anyone else has any other conflicting info. My daughter doesn't

love the stuff...at first she ate it plain with no problem but now

we have to creatively season it (or else disguise in other foods! --

she *loves* smoothies so I take advantage of that by adding tofu

with the bananas/strawberries etc.) I personally love tofu so it

disheartens me a bit that she doesn't love it too... :(

Hi Hadass

Your veggie kids sound like my youngest son. He is the only vegetarian that

doesn't know that he is vegetarian. LOL He loves veggie " meats " . I do

explain that they aren't meat that comes from animals like other people eat

(so that he won't eat " ham " somewhere else). The veggies he will eat are

potatoes, sweet potatoes and cucumber. He isn't even much of a fruit eater.

:(

I don't blame here there, tofu plain leaves a lot to be desired, I must have

it in a dish or seasoned as well. The smoothies is a great idea!
