Has anyone travelled to England (Britain) and can they say if they found

much in the way of child-friendly veggie restaurants ?

I'm compiling a list of these - you can email me directly if the list has

had that discussion before.

Thanks,

Frank

Hi Frank:

My husband is English and we go there at least twice a

year. We are veggie (not vegan), have 2 small

children and have never had a problem. You can always

find a restaurant that has a few veggie options,

however, Brighton (in the south, on the coast) is

extremely progressive and has tons of veggie

restaurants, I can't remember any of the names of

course, but I bet you could find it on the web. You

will hopefully visit some country pubs while you are

there and they usually have at least one vegetarian

entree on the menu and are pretty accommodating. If

you eat fish -- the fish and chips was a big eat with

my 3 year old. We also ate Italian a lot, Pizza

Express is a chain although it doesn't feel like one;

The food is good, inexpensive and they are very child

friendly. Also Tesco (grocery store chain) has great

organic food.

have fun!

Useful info, and yes, as you suggest, I found some more on the web at:

www.vegout.info

It covers the whole of Britain. I hope its useful to you.

Many thanks,

Frank

Frank,

I made a trip to London with my five-year-old son this spring and we had no

trouble eating (apart from the fact that my son is off the charts for

pickiness). Pizza Express is great for both adults and children -- the pizza

veneziana is my favorite. There are also cafes in most of the museums that are

easy for tourists and offer good, nutritious food. In Neal's Yard, in Covent

Garden, is the Whole Foods Cafe, which is casual and extremely good with a huge

menu. There's also Food for Thought there as well. Pret a Manger is a chain of

take-away shops that I fell back on when we'd had a tiring day and wanted to eat

picnic style in our hotel room. Also places like Marks and Spencer and Harrods

have great food halls that offer prepared meals, sandwiches, salads, etc. The

Brits are extremely vegetarian-friendly (didn't they just ban fox hunting

finally?).

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more general info about traveling to

England with a child.

Terry

Oh say this isn't so! Or do you mean that Neal's Yard now has another

place called " Whole Foods Cafe " in addition to " Food for Thought " ? The

thought of a Whole Foods in Neal's Yard is just too painful to bear.

Neal's Yard was health food back when such a thing was decidedly

un-trendy.

BTW, I agree with all the other responders that Britain is easier than

most of the States when it comes to finding vegetarian food. You

shouldn't have any problem.

IME, Britain is a darn sight more veggie-friendly nowadays than North

America. My kids always found pizza or chips (french fries to you) or

*something* to wolf down, and we enjoyed excellent vegetarian food, as

well. Just about any half-decent restaurant will do, but certainly all

Indian ones.

Have a good trip!

Be well, Hadass.
