Guest guest
My toddler wanted to try some herbal tea after seeing Daddy drink some. His pediatrician said that I shouldn't give him any herbal teas, even peppermint tea, until he is a teenager, and even then sparingly. Has anyone heard of such advice before? She said that herbs are too questionable and that it's not worth the risk of introducing teas to a young child.
Guest guest
My 6 year old has been sipping on my herbal teas for several years with no ill effects. The most he's had at one time has been about 1/2 cup, then he loses interest. , " admartin " <admartin@e...> wrote: > > My toddler wanted to try some herbal tea after seeing Daddy drink some. How does she feel about his getting peppermint in hard candies (not when he's a toddler, obviously, but certainly before he's a teenager!)? My son likes to drink camomile tea with honey (we are not vegan). I haven't noticed any ill effects. What is she worried about? Be well, Hadass. Guest guest
I know that teas aren't recommended for toddlers because they don't have a lot of food value (medicinal value is different) but the same people wouldn't bat an eye at seeing a toddler drinking Kool-Aid or soda pop. I wouldn't give some of the more medicinal type of teas (at least not without a naturopathic doctor's guidance) because they might be detrimental to a smaller body but peppermint should be fine. Camomile in small amounts should be ok but be careful if the toddler is allergic to ragweed because they are related. Guest guest
Hi. I've been giving my 6 year old daughter herbal tea for over a year now and she loves it. My doctor says its fine to give her especially cham. and peppermint. What I don't give her are the blends meant to help with cold, and anxiety and such. I don't even use those (smile). admartin <admartin wrote: My toddler wanted to try some herbal tea after seeing Daddy drink some. Guest guest
Sorry for the delay in this response. I've been out of town for a while. Anyway, I have never heard such a crock of junk before in my life. I'd wonder how much herbal studies this doctor has done. The naturpath that I work with couldn't believe this comment either. I have been giving my son herbal tea since he was a toddler. Peppermint is fine, as is lemon, almond, chammomile etc. I'd be careful with some things such as comfrey or sassafrass and a few others. For the most part, common herbal teas are fine. Feel free to email me privately if you have specific teas you'd like to check. I have a list of teas that are safe for pregnant and nursing moms and children. Peace, Laura in MD admartin writes: tea, until he is a teenager, and even then sparingly. Guest guest
My son loves herbal 'fairy' tea-heavy on the rice milk, too. I've let him try Rooibos, chamomile, peppermint, and probably others I've forgotten. No problems.
