Guest guest
Hi. I am new to the group. I am 16 wks pregnant with my first child. Both my husband and I have been vegetarian for 15+ years. We plan to raise our child vegetarian (lacto-ovo). I am looking for advice you can offer about regarding strategies to deal with in- laws that may not honor our decision to raise a veggie baby. I plan to nurse for about a year. Also- any advice on diet while I am pregnant is welcome. I am on a very low sugar diet and dairy is on my adversion list. I am a little paranoid that I am not getting enough protien. Are there any warning signs if I am not? Thanks! Pamela Expecting in June
Guest guest
Just eat protein rich foods with every meal and you should be just fine. Remember there is protein in almost all whole foods. Good for you on your healthy choices for you and your baby. Jacqueline - " pamela_cain725 " <pamela_cain725 Wednesday, December 29, 2004 5:02 PM New...pregnant with first > > > > Hi. Guest guest
Hi, Welcome to the group. I have a 10 month old vegan girl, Dahlia, that has been vegan since she was in my belly. I've been vegetarian since I was 12 and became vegan shortly after I found out I was pregnant (at 21.) It was easy for me and a little more difficult for my fiance who went straight from eating meat to becoming a full vegan. But we decided together that it is best for us and our baby. I had a wonderful pregnancy and delivery. The only problem was that I was borderline anemic. My midwife advised me to eat a bowl of Total every morning and that boosted up my iron intake like crazy. Other than that the baby and I couldn't have been healthier. Doing yoga every night also helped to prepare me for a natural childbirth. My parents and my fiance's parents didn't like the idea at first. They thought she wouldn't be getting all the nutrients she needs. But she is in the 75th percentile for her height and weight, and is extremely smart, happy, and healthy. My parents have actually cut out meat from their diets a few months ago. And they feel great. I noticed that my mom's face looks younger and healthier. After seeing our healthy vegan baby, our family total supports us now and thinks its wonderful. I wish you well with your pregnancy. The only advice I can give you is to stay busy, eat as many fresh fruits and veggies as you can, make sure you get enough iron, and try yoga (if you're not already.) There are some awesome pregnancy yoga videos available. Good Luck!! Mandy --- pamela_cain725 <pamela_cain725 wrote: > > > Hi. I am new to the group. I am 16 wks pregnant > with my first > child.
