Guest guest
I am taking 5 yo ds to the Mall of America for a couple days over Spring Break. We are Vegetarian, but he can have no dairy or corn. Aside from bringing all the food that we will need with me, does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a grocery store in the Mall? Is there any restaurant that might have food that he could eat? With that said, does anyone have any suggestions for good foods to bring that would be okay in a hotel room for a couple days? If it is really cold outside, we can leave things in the trunk, but in March it could be in the 20s or 60s. Who knows. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi I haven't had to deal with this yet because my son is only 11 months and we live 1/2 from the mall but from my perspective it is your normal mall for food. There is no grocery store in the mall but a smaller drug store with little essentials (I think it is still open). The fast food is all pretty standard (Burger King, Taco Bell etc) with some different things (Chinese etc) - lots of sandwich shops (including the PB & J sandwich shop) so you shouldn't have any problem if you want to fast food every once in awhile. The sit down restaurants all offer some type of veggie and most will cook to order - we ate at Rainforest café last time and had salads and a veggie burger. We have a ton of food co-ops but I don't think any are close to MOA but I'm sure there would be a grocery store. I always take lots of drinks, crackers, cereals, cheese, veggies and bread for sandwiches to keep in the hotel room plus my husband makes sure he has junk food for himself (chips and starbursts). I there is a good selection of hotels around the mall that have refrigerators in the rooms but I'm not positive. Hope that helps - you might also check out the mall website I think it will give you a list of all the restaurants www.mallofamerica.com<http://www.mallofamerica.com/> Jen Keskey - c<whovilleabc < > Monday, March 07, 2005 7:57 AM Mall of America I am taking 5 yo ds to the Mall of America for a couple days over Spring Break. Guest guest
Cindy, Fresh fruit, nuts and seeds are always a winner. Also vegan crackers, and cookies. Granola and small packages of soy milk and juice. If you feel up to it bring a blender for the hotel and whip up a few smoothies. Plus for $5.00 more you can get a refrigerator in your hotel room. Guest guest
Last year or so when I was there, I had veggie falafel at a mediterranean place and a veggie burrito, in addition to the other things mentioned. Whenever I travel I too bring foods in case nothing veggie can be found. Granola, canned fruit, bread. If there is a microwave in the hotel room, you can take a tip from Roughing it Elegantly and cook nice meals such as lentil rice or pasta and freeze it in freezer bags; by the time it thaws in a day or so in a cooler, it will be ready to cook. I bring one thawed and one frozen container of hummus; use the thawed one first. .... Be kind. Be of good cheer. Guest guest
Funny you mention we just had the conversation the other night - he is " almost " vegetarian except for the starbursts - he started this binge when he quite smoking last year when our son was born. Even though he traded one vice for another I'm learning to live with it because it is slightly better for him than the cigs . Guest guest
I just went to a Rainforest Cafe - in MA - the Vegi burger was on the menu - If I was to go there again I would get the lettuce wraps - without the shrimp. Someone got that and it was great - you put the wraps together your self and everything was extremely fresh! IcedChaiSoy wrote: Speaking of the Rainforest Cafe... the last time I went to the one here in Las Vegas they had removed the veggie burger from their menu. The manager said the restaurant was doing away with it. They replaced it with some vegetable sandwich that wasn't very good at all. :-( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jacqueline Bodnar Author of " Vegetarian Resource Book: A to Z Reference Guide to Vegetarianism " http://www.jacquelinebodnar.com/vegbook.htm
