VitaMix and Juicing vs. Blending

I saw an impressive demonstration of a Vita-Mix and was wondering if, in

spite of its high cost, it is worth purchasing? Is it just a " glorified "

blender?

Also, the Vita-Mix representative stressed the benefit of making " whole

food " juices by blending every component of the food into a juice instead of

using an extractor to just get the juice. What was said made sense, but are

there times when extraction is better, other than for taste and smoothness,

than blending?

i have had a vitamis for a few months now and LOVE it... it gets used at

least twice a day (morning smoothie and a lunch soup). my daughter loves the

drinks and soups and can't get enough of them. for us it has been worth it

We've had a Vitamix for a few years now. It is a glorified blender,

and you get what you pay for! It's extremely powerful, and you get a

seven year warranty. I use it every day for a smoothie and for other

blending tasks as needed. I'm not crazy about the whole juices from a

flavor standpoint. For most people, the whole juices are definitely

better than the extracted juices since you lose the fiber and some of

the juice (stuck in the fiber).

The biggest drawback is that they only have the huge blending

containers. I would love to have a small container for little

blending jobs so that I'm not trying to scrape 1/4 cup of mixed

something out of a huge container.

HTH!

I've had my Vita Mix about 6 months now and I love it. I averaged one or two

burned out blenders/ food processors a year so for me the expense made sense.

I've done the smoothies, whole juices and grain grinding all without a hitch.

As to blending versus juicing, you wouldn't believe how fine/smooth the Vita Mix

makes things. Honestly, my kids never gripe about whole juices.
