Guest guest
Would like to ask why some of you dont take Honey, Eggs, and all that since the animals DO release them without force? Or am I mistaken? For homemade milk of rice, soy, almond, whatever: Any recipes here to help me out? Also, I wonder if they had any nutritious comments and if they would be able to freeze up. Am going thru a transititon here but it is a little hard and overwhelming when I try to take a full step. Thanks Everybody! Guest guest
Hi Vonnie Vegans don't eat honey, eggs or dairy because the animals are harmed in the process of getting these things. Bees are often killed by the bee keepers when they are extracting the honey from the hive. Laying hens are probably the most tortured animals on the face of the earth. They are crammed into small cages with several other birds. The birds peck each other because they are not used to being cramped together so they cut thier beaks off without anesthesia. Many other horrible things happen to chickens that are used for eggs. Dairy is not used because cows are forced to give birth many times in order to keep producing milk. The calves are taken from thier mothers often within the first 24 hours. They cry for each other for a long time. Male calves are sold for veal. When the cows can no longer produce milk they are sold for food and slaughtered under horrible conditions (as if any conditions can be good for that). I think for myself I have an attitude to do as little harm in this world as I possibly can. I know that when I drive I probably kill bugs and sometimes when I walk I may step on something but I try not to inflict harm on purpose. I hope this helps rt wrote: Would like to ask why some of you dont take Honey, Eggs, and all that since the animals DO release them without force? Or am I mistaken? Guest guest
Have you seen " Chicken Run " it is WORSE than that you know. Hens are crammed into cages and forced to lay eggs without ever seeing sunlight or being free to WALK around. Chickens that are bred as layers (the males) are suffocated in plastic bags. http://www.peta.org/mc/factsheet_display.asp?ID=99 Renee ps good thing you didn't ask about cow's milk - full of blood and pus and all that:) --- Vaughndelee Hart <vonnie_hart wrote: > > > > Would like to ask why some of you dont take Honey, > Eggs, and all that since the animals DO release them > without force? Guest guest
I can't speak for everyone, but here is my reasoning behind not eating these products. I have just recently stopped eating these products, and even though I was a vegetarian for some time, I too found the decision difficult, not only because of cheese, but because so many products out there have some sort of animal product in them, making it harder for me, but well worth the difficulty. The easiest one for me to stop using was eggs. I didn't stop because I disagreed with eating eggs, but the egg industry in general. The conditions these animals are kept in is horrible, the cut off their beaks, and they are often starved so they will produce more eggs. Now that I have thought about it, I realize that these chickens weren't put on this earth so we could eat them or steal their eggs. The transition from milk was not hard but, oddly, not eating cheese was much more difficult. I was always told how good milk was for you, etc., but just recently I read something that affected me. Humans produce milk for their babies, and every other mammal does the same. This milk we are drinking is not made for us, but for their babies. I've never seen other animals stealing milk from another species, and I find it odd that humans feel the need to do so. In the Eastern world (Asia, etc) it is rare for them to use milk and it's products, and they think it is weird for us to drink milk, eat cheese, etc. Honey is still controversial within the veg community, but I don't use it anymore. The way I look at it, these bees aren't producing honey so that we can come in and use it. I just think of it as stealing, as with eggs, milk, etc. Those are just my views though, everyone has their own, and are entitled to them. Hope that helps! ~Katherine _____ Vaughndelee Hart [vonnie_hart] Monday, March 21, 2005 8:18 PM Vegetarians reason?
