Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I just wanted to bring up the Sesame Street issue for those of you who may not know. I heard on the news lastnight that Sesame Street is making huge changes about the way they " advertise " food to children. They are going to be emphasis more on the importance of eating healthy and exercising everyday. They have a new song for Cookie Monster called " Cookie is a Sometimes Food. " I saw a little skit with him dancing with veggies. I think this will be a wonderful thing. I used to watch the show when I was little and now I can feel comfortable with my daughter watching it too. Mandy
Guest guest
That is great news! I was a little bummed the other day when they had the little blurb at the beginning of Sesame Street and I saw that MCDONALD'S was one of the companies providing funding. That can only be bad news! Fortunately the companies who provide funding are not allowed to overtly advertise their products. , " Mandy " <starpopple67> wrote: > > > Hi Everyone, > I just wanted to bring up the Sesame Street issue for those of you > who may not know. Guest guest
I heard about this too. I think it is annoyingly PC. I like Cookie Monster the way he was, a monster who couldn't say no to a cookie. How boring if all the characters are going to be so perfect. Guest guest
I don't have cable or receive any TV stations so we don't watch sesame street but I did purchase and preview the " Happy Healthy Monsters " DVD they released in Feb. It talks about exercise and healthy eating, and could be considered vegan except for one skit that deals with milk. I also purchased " Zoe's Dance moves " , because it is basically an intro to dance, featuring skits and " how to " steps from different styles and cultures (choreographed by and starring Paula Abdul): tap, ballet, hip-hop, african, asian and I'm not sure if there's anything else... I don't remember. I'm glad they are advocating healthy lifestyles as too many kids spend too much time in front of the TV and in the house in general (due not just to parenting styles but safety as well) BUT I have to admit the kid in me wants cookie monster to stay cookie monster. The Happy Healthy Monsters video has Cookie explaining how fruits, veggies and milk are good snacks and cookies are just for special treats, not all the time. That's awesome. And the milk skit where a dog drinks a glass of milk totally cracks me up. Guest guest
This is interesting news. I have noticed the ad for a sale on soy milk displayed in the window of Hooper's store on the show. Hopefully, we'll no longer have to hear the character Grover refer to hamburgers as " nourishing.
