Guest guest
So by chance we were watching sesame street the other day and it was the much-talked-about episode with all the good nutrition themes and Cookie Monster singing about cookies as a " sometime food. " So I was very curious what my toddler would think about it, I watched with her, she was on my lap so she wouldn't even take any cues from my from facial expressions, I didn't want to taint her opinion or indeed even ask her opinion, just wanted to see if she would say anything. At the end of Cookie's segment with all the healthy " anytime foods " she turned to me and said, " I want a COOKIE!! " ROTFL! But then a few days later, we got up and headed to the kitchen for breakfast. There was chocolate cake on the counter, leftover from the baby shower the night before, and it really looked good to me! I thought it would be easy to convince her to be my partner in crime and I said, " HEy, I know what we can have for breakfast! How about chocolate cake?! " But she looked real disappointed and said, " NO! I want OATMEAL! " So, we both had oatmeal, how could I sit there and eat cake when my toddler is opting for the healthy choice? Guest guest
Oh this made me laugh, laugh, laugh!! My girls would take me up on the chocolate cake in a heartbeat! On a completely different topic, can anyone recommend some natural home cleaning recipes, or a site where I can find them? I am specifically looking for something with which to clean the tile floor in my kitchen/dining room. Everything I've tried seems to leave a film or stickiness on the tile. Thanks in advance! Guest guest
Jen I am so glad I'm not the only one who has a sweet tooth. I try very hard to teach my son good habits and the bonus is I'm healthier because of it. In the past, I would frequently go through the drive-thru for a coffee. One day a well meaning relative did this with my son and got him a cookie. Well, after that every time we went through he wanted something. It was easier to just stop going. Now, on occasion I do go but I make sure to tell him in advance it is only a coffee stop (which he has no interest in as he has tried it and hates it) and I know better than to try to sneak in a snack for myself to have at work-which I don't need anyway. In fact, I've started taking my own organic decaf from home because of it. Guest guest
Chessie To avoid the stickiness you could rinse or do a final scrub with vinegar. It is the cleaning product of choice around here and does not leave a film. It doesn't smell great though. You may still need to use another product like baking soda, etc for the actual cleaning/scrubbing. Guest guest
For your tile floor I would try using white vinegar and water. I use white vinegar for practically everything. I buy it by the gallon. I like knowing I'm not using some harsh chemical in my home where two little girls, two cats and a dog are running around. On my counter tops I use a spray bottle with 2/3 water, 1/3 vinegar, and about 10-15 drops tea trea oil. Tea Trea Oil is anti-bacterial yet non-toxic. You can put tea trea oil in your mop water too if you want to add some extra anti-bacterial power. Tea Trea Oil is expensive, but I bought this tiny little bottle for $5.00 and it has lasted me for months......definately worth it. I also use the tea trea oil for lots of things. It can be put on a pimple to help get rid of. I use it to swab my throat when I feel like I'm getting sick (it does taste nasty). I've also heard lice don't like tea trea oil. I've heard if you put a couple drops in your families conditioner that your kids won't get the lice when there is an outbreak at school. Guest guest
I haven't tried any of the recipes from this site, but they seem good. There's tons of recipes, but only one that I saw for cleaning floors. Hope this helps! http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/8088/clngrn.html Katherine _____ On Behalf Of Chessie Thursday, April 28, 2005 11:39 AM RE: cookie monster Oh this made me laugh, laugh, laugh!! Guest guest
I must be the only person who can't use vinegar. I have a rip roaring asthma attack if I use it. In fact I discovered this sensitivity when staying at my aunt's for the night. I had the door to my bedroom closed and when I opened it a wall of vinegar fumes hit me because my aunt was making pickles. My eyes and nose started streaming and my lungs totally closed up. Luckily my aunt's daughter was asthmatic and had some severe allergies so she knew what to do. She practically carried me to the door and put me outside on the doorstep. The cold fresh air revived me and I started breathing again. VERY SCAREY. Guest guest
I don't think you are the only one that happens to. Has anyone ever tried to cook with vinegar? You get the same reaction if you hold your face above the pan when you pour in vinegar. The fumes come up into your face and it can be quite overwhelming. If you hold your head back until the fumes dissapate then it is ok. If you really want to try to use vinegar for cleaning maybe you should try it very diluted first. Otherwise, there are many natural products out there for house cleaning. Jacq <jacqcote wrote:I must be the only person who can't use vinegar.
