Guest guest
I know most vegans/vegetarians aren't huge fans of organized sports, however, I've been working with the Phillies for two years now, and have finally gotten them to start carrying Gardenburger - Flame-grilled burger, which is vegan, on a vegan bun. In addition, the Phillies's pizza vendor, Peace A Pizza, who offers a " Cheeseless Veggie " pizza at their restaurants, will be offering this variety at select Phillies games. The burger is cooked in it's on oven, so there is no chance of cross-contamination with animal foods. The selling of substantial vegan food is a HUGE step in getting ALL the major sports teams to recognize that there is a demand for vegan food and that it can be good. In addition, this helps the meat eaters see that these foods exist, and will lure some of them into trying it out. Club VEG - Vegetarian Education Group, is having a positive activism day on Sunday, June 12, 2005 to go out and support the Phillies efforts thus far. The Phillies will be serving the vegan gardenburgers as well as the Cheeseless Veggie pizza. If we sit this one out because of some distaste for pro sports, we miss a great opportunity to speak out for our cause, to get people - especially those who don't often think about it - thinking about vegetarianism and the rationale behind it. I hope you get at least 25 people who are willing to spend one afternoon at the ballpark to make a difference in Philly. Ticket prices are $18. Please contact me at scottg(AT)clubveg.org to make your reservation. Guest guest
I think Scott's basing this statement on the fact that his wife (me) and most of our vegan friends hate professional sports. I won't get into our specific issues, but I'd much rather play baseball (and I'm quite the athlete) than sit there at a game. I am going to the game on June 12 to support the veggie burger as are many of our vegan friends who have no desire to watch sports (we'll keep each other company with some intelligent conversation while Scott and the others watch the game). ;-) --Allison , TeaLovingWriter@a... wrote: > In a message dated 5/23/2005 6:15:07 AM Pacific Standard Time, > scott_geiger@h... writes: > I know most vegans/vegetarians aren't huge fans of organized sports>>>.. > > Scott - I'm really curious about this statement that you made. Guest guest
The informal research I've done, in Philadelphia, is that the vast majority of the people that are members of local vegetarian groups have zero interest in sports. For some people, they lack interest because their lives are too busy to just sit around and watch a game. Some of the local members don't enjoy competitive sports because of the win/lose result, which is believed to cause people to be less compassionate towards each other. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but there is a whole line of thinking in this area. Other members don't like the professional sports teams because so many are big supporters of hunting animals. Others simply don't enjoy sports because they are more interested in spending their free time enjoying the public service efforts they are apart of. , TeaLovingWriter@a... wrote: > In a message dated 5/23/2005 6:15:07 AM Pacific Standard Time, > scott_geiger@h... writes: > I know most vegans/vegetarians aren't huge fans of organized sports>>>.. > > Scott - I'm really curious about this statement that you made.
