Guest guest
I recently had a cbc done through my gym. I have some questions regarding how to raise my cholesterol levels. I do not consume animal flesh, but I do eat eggs occasionally. My hdl was 37.0 with their acceptable range being 39-96 and my ldl is 85.2 with their acceptable range being 130-159. I am looking for a website or source on how to manage this issue. Thanks for all your help, have a wonderful and safe memorial day weekend to all. Judy Sanderson, Bozeman, MT. Guest guest
You should manage this issue by realizing that you don't have a problem and you don't need to do anything. Your cholesterol levels aren't much different from mine. My HDL is 39 and LDL is 94. If you were on medication to control your cholesterol it would certainly need to be adjusted, which is what I believe that range is for. It's can also be a problem if your ratio of " good " to " bad " cholesterol is off, but yours (like mine) isn't. A recent study indicated that some women with lower cholesterol have a higher incidence of depression. If you are concerned, before you go changing anything because of a test from your gym, you should make an appointment to talk to a real doctor about this. Guest guest
BOZEMAN, MONTANA That really jumped out at me, because I was raised in Anaconda (My parents still live there). I don't come accross too many people from Montana on any of my . I now live in New Jersey and have been here for about the past 12 years. I met a Jersey boy and married him, so obviously I'm staying. How is it being a vegetarian out in Montana? I still have friends of mine from Montana that will send me the " Vegetarian is a dirty word out in Montana " or " We shoot Vegetarians and eat them in Montana " type of jokes. Of course I'm like very funny guys......you eat what you want and I'll eat what I want. I wish I had low cholesterol. I still eat cheese and icecream....can't seem to kick that habit, and high cholesterol runs in my family. Kelly judysanderson <judysanderson wrote: I recently had a cbc done through my gym. Guest guest
Judy, You can raise your HDL through diet and exercise, although your HDL is borderline according to the standards, it is nothing you should obsess about. As far as your LDL, it is great! There is no reason that I can see that you need to raise it. I am a registered nurse and I have never seen a doctor try to " raise " a patients LDL's!! What was your cholesterol level? Your HDL's and LDL's are not the same as your cholesterol. Are you over or underweight? Take care, Kim (These are just my opinions, you should always get checked by your doctor) , " judysanderson " <judysanderson> wrote: > I recently had a cbc done through my gym. Guest guest
Hi, Judy--I second the recommendations to see a professional to discuss what, if anything, you should do to raise cholesterol levels. I wouldn't however, simply talk about it with your general physician; too few GPs receive much training in nutrition. I find that their information is too often out of date, and that they have misconceptions of veg*n issues. I would advise seeing a registered dietician instead--preferably one well-familiar with veg*n diets. I do know that there are plant based foods that can help raise " good cholesterol " levels, but you may not need to even do that. You also didn't mention your triglyercide level (usually given as part of a blood cholesterol screen); that figure is also important to look at when assessing the overall picture. Guest guest
I wouldn't be concerned about 2 digits, those test are not necessarily perfect. If you were constantly having cholesterol results that were low than that would be a problem. , " judysanderson " <judysanderson> wrote: > I recently had a cbc done through my gym.
